Pilot – Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance

Babcock Mission Critical Services Onshore (BMCSO), a leading provider of helicopter emergency medical services, seeks a highly skilled and experienced Pilot to join the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) team. This pivotal role involves piloting a state-of-the-art H135 T3 helicopter, conducting day and night Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) missions, and providing vital patient transport in emergency situations. The successful candidate will contribute directly to saving lives and protecting communities.
Responsibilities:
- Execute day and night HEMS operations for HIOWAA, adhering to all relevant aviation regulations and company health and safety protocols.
- Maintain the highest standards of professional expertise and safety throughout all operational duties.
- Work a 12-hour shift pattern (four days on, four days off), facilitating adequate rest and recovery.
Essential Requirements:
Candidates must meet one of the following flight hour requirements:
- 1000 hours as Pilot in Command (PIC), with 500 hours PIC on twin-turbine helicopters; or
- 1000 hours as co-pilot in HEMS/Police operations, including 500 hours PIC under supervision and 100 hours PIC on twin-turbine helicopters.
In addition to the above, candidates must also possess:
- A minimum of 2000 total helicopter flight hours.
- 500 hours of operational experience in twin-turbine helicopters within an environment comparable to HEMS operations.
- 20 hours of VFR night flying as PIC.
- Fluency in English, a valid driving licence, passport, and the right to work in the UK.
Qualifications:
- UK ATPL(H) or CPL(H) + IR.
- Valid UK Class 1 aviation medical certificate.
Security Clearance:
The successful applicant must be able to obtain and maintain BPSS security clearance.

Location & Residency:
This full-time position is based at Thruxton Airfield. Successful candidates must reside within 25 nautical miles (or 45 minutes) of the airfield.
