Plane Captain
Overview:
The Plane Captain plays a critical role in aviation operations, primarily responsible for comprehensive aircraft handling, servicing, and inspections. This position involves performing daily and turn-around inspections, fueling aircraft and ground support equipment, and providing essential technical guidance and instruction to personnel. The Plane Captain ensures aircraft are prepared for flight, safely launched, and recovered according to established procedures.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Performs daily and turn-around aircraft inspections in strict adherence to applicable procedures.
- Initiates and accurately completes required aircraft maintenance forms.
- Conducts aircraft fuel sampling and servicing in accordance with established procedures.
- Manages the safe launch and recovery of aircraft.
- Directs aircraft movement during taxi operations for launch and recovery.
- Executes aircraft towing duties and acts as a brake rider when necessary.
- Secures and covers aircraft following established procedures.
- Offers technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to employees as required.
- Utilizes two-way communication equipment effectively during operations.
- Ensures rigorous compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention, Hazardous Waste management, Egress Familiarization protocols, and Tool Control programs.
- Upholds all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations relevant to the contract, facility, and job assignment.
- Guarantees the safety, security, and preservation of government and company-owned equipment.
- Provides courteous and professional customer service at all times.
- Operates portable firefighting equipment competently.
- Maintains a clean and organized work center.
- Performs other qualified duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations is necessary.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any required government/company licenses, qualifications, certifications, and clearances for the position.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, understanding, and communicating in the English language, and the ability to follow both verbal and written instructions.
- Requires a thorough knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
- Must have a thorough working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, including handling, servicing, marshaling techniques, the use of common hand tools, and standard operational safety requirements of the aircraft.
- Physical ability to climb, bend, stoop, squat, crawl, crouch, kneel, carry, balance, and reach above shoulder level, and to push or pull weight up to seventy (70) pounds.
- Possesses close vision, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to hear within the normal range.
- Must successfully complete a training program and obtain written certification as a Plane Captain. Re-qualification is required semi-annually.
- Must be qualified on all assigned T/M/S (Type/Model/Series) aircraft.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Security Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is a requirement for obtaining a Secret Clearance.
- Flexibility to work all assigned shifts and schedules is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with F-18E/F, EA-18G, E-2C, and/or MH-60S aircraft is strongly preferred.
- Possession of specific licensing/certification requirements, including:
- Hazardous Waste Communications Training
- FOD and TCP Awareness Training
- ISO 9001-2000 Program Awareness
- Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training
- Licensing to operate support equipment such as tow tractors, nitrogen servicing carts, engine wash carts, and engine start units is beneficial.
- Experience handling hazardous materials is a plus.
- Demonstrated eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
- Ability to use a respirator if required for duties.
Compensation and Benefits:
