Plane Captain
Job Summary
The Plane Captain is responsible for performing comprehensive aircraft handling, servicing, daily inspections, and turn-around inspections. This role provides essential pre-operational checks, fuels ground support equipment, and offers technical assistance and guidance.
Essential Responsibilities
The Plane Captain performs a variety of critical tasks, including but not limited to:
- Executing duties associated with Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications.
- Conducting daily and turn-around inspections in accordance with applicable procedures.
- Initiating and completing necessary maintenance forms.
- Performing aircraft fuel sampling and servicing as required by established procedures.
- Launching and recovering aircraft safely and efficiently.
- Serving as the aircraft taxi director during launch and recovery operations.
- Towing aircraft and acting as the aircraft brake rider when necessary.
- Securing and covering aircraft using established procedures.
- Providing technical assistance, guidance, and instruction.
- Utilizing two-way communication equipment as required.
- Ensuring strict compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Adhering to all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations relevant to the contract, facility, and job assignment.
- Ensuring the safety, security, and preservation of government and company-owned equipment.
- Delivering courteous and professional customer service.
- Operating portable firefighting equipment.
- Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the work center.
- Performing other qualified duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates for the Plane Captain position must meet the following qualifications:
- Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Have a minimum of two (2) years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
- Hold a valid Driver's License.
- Be able to obtain and maintain any required government/company licenses, qualifications, certifications, and clearances for the position, including a Secret US Government Clearance (US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance).
- Demonstrate the ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in the English language, following both verbal and written instructions.
- Possess thorough knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
- Have thorough working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and standard operational safety requirements of the aircraft.
- Physically able to perform duties including climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, crouching, kneeling, carrying, balancing, reaching above shoulder level, pushing, or pulling weight up to seventy (70) pounds.
- Have required visual acuity including close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Possess hearing within the normal range.
- Must complete a training program and receive written certification as a Plane Captain, with a requirement to re-qualify semi-annually.
- Be qualified on all assigned Type/Model/Series (T/M/S) aircraft.
- Be available to work all assigned shifts and schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference may be given to candidates with the following:
- Experience with F-18 (A-F), EA-18G, E-2C, F-16, and/or MH60 aircraft.
- Possession of specific licensing or certification, such as Hazardous Waste Communications Training, FOD and TCP Awareness Training, ISO 9001-2000 Program Awareness, Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training.
- Licensing for operating support equipment including tow tractors, nitrogen servicing carts, engine wash carts, and engine start units.
- Experience handling hazardous materials in the performance of duties.
- Strong eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
- Ability to use a respirator if required.
