The Plane Captain performs aircraft handling, servicing, and daily and turnaround inspections as required, adhering to applicable procedures. He/She provides pre-operational inspections and fuels ground support equipment, offering technical assistance and guidance.
Essential responsibilities include performing duties of Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications. The Plane Captain initiates and completes applicable maintenance forms, performs aircraft fuel sampling/servicing in accordance with established procedures, and launches and recovers aircraft. He/She serves as an aircraft taxi director during launch and recovery operations, tows aircraft, and acts as an aircraft brake rider when required.
The Plane Captain secures and covers aircraft utilizing established procedures, provides technical assistance, guidance, and instruction as required, and utilizes two-way communication equipment. He/She ensures compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs, and all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations. He/She also ensures the safety, security, and preservation of government and company-owned equipment, provides courteous and professional customer service, and operates portable firefighting equipment. Maintaining the cleanliness of the work center and performing other qualified duties as assigned are also required.
Minimum requirements include a High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) or more years’ experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations. A valid Driver’s License is mandatory. The candidate must obtain/maintain any government/company license, qualification, certification, and clearance requirements. He/She must possess the ability to read, write, understand, and communicate in English, following both verbal and written instructions, and have thorough knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals. A thorough working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and normal operational safety requirements of aircraft is essential. The position requires the ability to climb, bend, stoop, squat, crawl, crouch, kneel, carry, balance, and reach above shoulder level, and push or pull weight up to (70) pounds. The candidate must have close vision including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, and the ability to hear at the normal range. Completion of a training program and written certification as a plane captain, with semi-annual re-qualification, is required. The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance (US Citizenship is required). Qualification on all assigned T/M/S is mandatory, and the ability to work all assigned shifts and schedules is essential.
Preferred qualifications include experience with F-18 (A-F), EA-18G, F-16 aircraft. Licensing certification in Hazardous Waste Communications Training, FOD and TCP Awareness Training, ISO 9001-2000 Program Awareness, and Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training is preferred. Licensing on support equipment such as tow tractor, nitrogen servicing cart, engine wash cart and engine start unit is also desirable. The ability to use eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity is a plus, and the candidate may be required to handle hazardous materials or use a respirator in performance of assigned duties.
