Plane Captain
An aviation company seeks a dedicated Plane Captain to perform aircraft handling and servicing, along with conducting daily and turnaround inspections as required. The incumbent will provide pre-operational inspections and fuel ground support equipment, offering technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to employees in related classifications.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Performs duties and responsibilities of Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications.
- Conducts daily and turnaround inspections according to applicable procedures.
- Initiates and completes relevant maintenance forms.
- Performs aircraft fuel sampling and servicing in accordance with established procedures.
- Launches and recovers aircraft.
- Serves as aircraft taxi director during launch and recovery operations.
- Participates in aircraft towing and acts as an aircraft brake rider when required.
- Ties down and covers aircraft using established procedures.
- Provides technical assistance, guidance, and instruction as needed.
- Utilizes two-way communication equipment.
- Ensures compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Ensures adherence to all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations pertinent to the contract, facility, and job assignment.
- Ensures the safety, security, and preservation of government and company-owned equipment.
- Delivers courteous and professional customer service.
- Operates portable firefighting equipment.
- Maintains the cleanliness of the work center.
- Performs other qualified duties as assigned.
- Performs all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Two (2) or more years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations is required.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain any company/government-required qualification, certification, licensing, or security clearance.
- Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in English, and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
- Comprehensive working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and standard operational safety requirements of aircraft.
- Must be able to work any assigned shift and schedule.
- Ability to travel in support of cross-country rescues and detachments of unknown duration.
Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:
The position requires physical movements and postures associated with shop/hanger/flight line maintenance activities, including bending, stooping, walking, climbing, pushing, stretching, kneeling, and working in tiring or uncomfortable positions. The individual must possess eye-hand coordination, manual dexterity, and the ability to lift objects up to 70 pounds. Extended periods of walking and standing on level and/or inclined surfaces are required. Close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus are necessary. Normal hearing range is essential, and respirator use may be required.
Work conditions may vary from environments with minimal physical discomfort to environments with exposure to inclement weather, temperature changes, wind, and rain. The individual may be required to work in areas with high noise levels and potential exposure to electrical shock hazards, fumes, or airborne particles.
