Plane Captain
A highly motivated and detail-oriented individual is sought to fill the role of Plane Captain. This position requires a dedicated professional capable of performing a range of critical aircraft handling, servicing, and inspection duties. The successful candidate will exhibit strong technical skills and a comprehensive understanding of flight line operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute aircraft handling, servicing, and daily/turn-around inspections according to established procedures.
- Conduct pre-operational inspections and fuel ground support equipment.
- Provide technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper personnel.
- Complete all necessary maintenance forms and documentation accurately.
- Perform aircraft fuel sampling and servicing in compliance with standard procedures.
- Manage the launch and recovery of aircraft, acting as a taxi director when needed.
- Participate in aircraft towing, serving as a brake rider when necessary.
- Secure and protect aircraft using established tie-down and covering procedures.
- Utilize two-way communication equipment for effective operational coordination.
- Maintain a stringent focus on Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Ensure adherence to all safety regulations relevant to the contract, facility, and assigned tasks.
- Actively participate in the preservation and security of both government and company-owned equipment.
- Demonstrate professional customer service skills at all times.
- Operate portable firefighting equipment as needed.
- Maintain the cleanliness and order of the work center.
- Perform other duties as directed, contributing to the smooth and safe operation of the facility.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned to meet organizational needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
- A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
- Must possess a valid Driver's License.
- Capability to obtain and maintain all required company, government qualifications, certifications, licensing, and security clearances.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, including the ability to understand and follow instructions.
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
- Thorough working knowledge of flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, and the appropriate use of common hand tools.
- Ability to work any shift and adhere to assigned schedules, including flexibility to support cross-country rescues and detachments as needed.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This position involves physical activity common to shop, hanger and flight line environments. The role demands bending, stooping, walking, climbing, pushing, stretching, kneeling, and working in awkward positions. This person must have strong hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and the ability to lift up to 70 pounds. Prolonged periods of standing and walking on even and uneven surfaces are to be expected. Close vision including color and depth perception is required. The ability to adjust focus and hear at normal ranges is needed. Respiratory equipment may need to be used. Work conditions will vary with exposure to weather, high noise levels, electrical shock hazards, and fumes/airborne particles.
