Plane Captain
Amentum seeks a highly skilled and motivated Plane Captain to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient handling, servicing, and inspection of aircraft, ensuring the highest standards of operational readiness. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of aviation maintenance procedures and a commitment to safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute daily and turnaround inspections according to established procedures.
- Complete all applicable maintenance documentation accurately and promptly.
- Perform aircraft fueling and sampling procedures in accordance with regulations.
- Launch and recover aircraft, acting as taxi director as needed.
- Safely tow aircraft and serve as a brake rider when required.
- Secure and cover aircraft using established best practices.
- Provide technical guidance and instruction to junior personnel, including Aircraft Washers and Plane Captain Helpers.
- Utilize two-way communication equipment effectively.
- Maintain strict adherence to Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations and company policies.
- Maintain the security and preservation of company and government-owned equipment.
- Provide exceptional customer service.
- Operate portable firefighting equipment proficiently.
- Maintain a clean and organized work center.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum two years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any required company or government certifications, licenses, or security clearances.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
- Comprehensive understanding of aircraft flight line operations, including aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, the use of common hand tools, and standard operational safety procedures.
- Flexibility to work any assigned shift or schedule.
- Ability to travel for cross-country rescues and detachments of varying durations.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This position demands physical stamina, requiring a range of movements including bending, stooping, walking, climbing, pushing, stretching, and kneeling. The ability to lift up to 70 pounds is necessary. Extended periods of standing and walking on level and inclined surfaces are required. Excellent close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment are essential. Normal hearing range is required. Respirator use may be necessary.
The work environment may vary from comfortable indoor settings to outdoor conditions subject to inclement weather. Exposure to high noise levels, electrical hazards, fumes, and airborne particles is possible.
