Plane Captain - Aviation Operations
About the Role
This position plays a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our aircraft. The Plane Captain is responsible for a wide range of duties related to aircraft handling, servicing, inspections, and ground support. This individual will also provide technical guidance and instruction to junior team members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct daily and turnaround inspections in accordance with established procedures.
- Perform pre-operational inspections and fueling of ground support equipment.
- Execute aircraft launch and recovery procedures, serving as the aircraft taxi director during these operations.
- Handle aircraft towing and act as a brake rider when required.
- Perform aircraft fueling and sampling procedures in line with established protocols.
- Properly secure and cover aircraft according to defined procedures.
- Accurately complete all applicable maintenance forms.
- Offer technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications.
- Utilize two-way communication equipment effectively.
- Maintain strict adherence to Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Ensure compliance with all established safety regulations pertaining to the contract, facility, and job assignment.
- Guarantee the safety, security, and proper care of government and company-owned equipment.
- Deliver courteous and professional customer service.
- Operate portable firefighting equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work center.
- Perform other qualified duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Two or more years of demonstrated experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any required company/government qualifications, certifications, licenses, or security clearances.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to read, write, understand, and speak English fluently, as well as follow verbal and written instructions.
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant safety and maintenance manuals.
- Thorough understanding of aircraft flight line operations, encompassing handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and standard operational safety requirements.
- Flexibility to work any assigned shift and schedule.
- Willingness and ability to travel in support of cross-country rescues and detachments, which may be of indeterminate duration.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This role requires physical agility and the ability to perform tasks such as bending, stooping, walking, climbing, pushing, stretching, kneeling, and working in potentially tiring and uncomfortable positions. The selected candidate must possess good eye-hand coordination, manual dexterity, and the ability to lift up to 70 pounds. The work environment may vary, with exposure to inclement weather, high noise levels, electrical hazards, and fumes or airborne particles. Use of a respirator may be required.
