The Pilot in Command (PIC) is responsible for the safe and efficient conduct of flight operations, adhering to the principles and procedures outlined in FAR Part 135. As the final authority in the operation of the aircraft, the PIC exercises Operational Control at the Tier 2 level, as defined in the General Operations Manual, Chapter 5. The PIC supervises all other crew members during flight. Minimum qualifications must meet the requirements specified by Federal Aviation Regulation Part 135.243(b).
This position follows a rotating schedule of seven days on duty, followed by seven days off. While on duty, pilots work a 12-hour shift (or up to the maximum allowed under Part 135 if on mission) from home and must meet the program’s specified call-out time. Pilot shift assignments consist of either a day or night duty period and are scheduled the month prior by the Base Lead Pilot. Pilots generally serve the same duty period during their assigned seven-day shift. Changes to duty periods are discouraged but may occur based on local needs.
