Job Summary
This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service non-bargaining unit position for an Airplane Pilot (Position Description D0253P02) within the Montana Air National Guard, 120 OSS.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent pilots advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft, including high-performance fighter aircraft, for tactical and non-tactical missions. Responsibilities include:

Utilizing advanced precision instrument flight techniques and air navigational aids while adhering to strict flight parameters and safety standards.

Executing comprehensive pre-flight planning, including weather analysis, route mapping, fuel requirements, weight distribution, and preflight inspections.

Ensuring passenger and crew safety through thorough emergency briefings and adherence to established flight manual procedures.

Completing post-flight duties, including maintenance logs, flight reports, and coordination with ground personnel.

Serving as the Supervisor of Flying (SOF), acting as the Air Commander’s representative to ensure safe and efficient mission accomplishment.

Performing administrative program support in areas including Training and Scheduling, Operational Planning, Safety Program Management, and Inspector General duties.
Qualifications and Requirements
Military and Certification Prerequisites

Must be a current member of the National Guard or eligible for immediate membership prior to the effective date of placement.

Military Rank: O4/Maj - O5/Lt Col.

Must be AFSC qualified in 11M3C or able to qualify within 6 months of hire.

Must hold an undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university (transcripts required).

Must possess FAA certifications or aviation certifications from an accredited military aviation school (documentation required).

Must have graduated from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).

Must maintain medical standards required for USAF military pilots.
Experience Requirements
Candidates must demonstrate at least two years of specialized experience in civilian or military aviation programs. This experience must include:

Piloting and instructing pilot skills in fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft.

Supervising mission planning, crew briefings, and aircraft inspections.

Expertise in flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, and tactical mission operations.

Experience with aviation unit quality control, safety programs, and operational risk management.

Competence in applying military directives, FAA regulations, and standard operating procedures.
Conditions of Employment

Must wear the military uniform.

Ability to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance for access to classified information.

Registration with the Selective Service for males born after December 31, 1959.

Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

Work may require travel by military or commercial air and working non-standard hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
