Fixed Wing Pool Pilot

Air Methods seeks an experienced Fixed Wing Pool Pilot to operate EMS Air Medical Aircraft, including the PC12, PC12NGX, and BE200 (IFR) from a home base in California, with assignments to various nationwide locations. This full-time, regular position offers a competitive salary range with stipends and bonuses.

About the Role

The Fixed Wing Pool Pilot is responsible for ensuring the airworthiness of aircraft and favorable weather conditions for transporting medical crews and patients. This role demands compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR), Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM), and company General Operations Manual (GOM) guidelines. Pilots will operate aircraft safely and legally, conduct thorough pre-flight inspections, and maintain final authority regarding aircraft operations and passenger safety. Responsibilities include detailed flight planning, familiarity with aircraft and medical systems, accurate documentation, and participation in company activities. The schedule is typically 7 days on/7 days off with 12-hour shifts.

Requirements

  • Must maintain a weight not exceeding 250 pounds.
  • Must be less than seventy (70) years old.
  • Must have flown in category within the previous 24 months.
  • Maintains positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues, EMS representatives, hospitals, and the public.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school and two to five years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) Program Requirements:
    • 2500 total flight hours
    • Minimum of 2000 flight hours in category
    • 1000 hours Pilot in Command (PIC) in category
    • 500 hours of cross-country flight time, with at least 50 hours at night
    • 500 hours of turbine time
    • 100 hours night flight time
    • 100 hours of flight in actual instrument conditions in category
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
    • Instrument rating (for category and class of aircraft; ATP rating in category meets this requirement)
    • Fixed wing multiengine rating is required for twin-engine aircraft
    • Commercial single-engine land is required for single-engine aircraft
    • First OR Second Class FAA Medical certificate

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $82,900 - $93,251 per year, plus a $3,000 IFR Stipend and an Experience Stipend of up to $12,000. A $15,000 sign-on bonus is also offered. Off-duty housing is available.
