Overview
The Assistant Chief Pilot serves as a key operational leader responsible for pilot training, standardization, and regulatory compliance. This role drives the execution of flight and ground training programs to ensure pilots are qualified, mission-ready, and operating according to the highest safety standards. The Assistant Chief Pilot oversees Check Airmen and Instructors, leads new hire indoctrination and recurrent training, and partners with aviation, maintenance, and clinical leadership to ensure operational efficiency. The incumbent acts as a leader who balances hands-on training execution with broad operational oversight, talent development, and performance management.
Essential Responsibilities

Coordinate all flight and ground training qualifications and scheduling.

Supervise company pilots regarding regulatory issues.

Participate as a member of the management team to promote safe, successful operations.

Maintain Check Airman and Flight/Ground Instructor status in assigned aircraft.

Research, develop, write, and implement training materials and examinations.

Conduct, audit, and supervise new-hire pilot basic indoctrination and simulator training.

Supervise the Flight Training and Standardization Department, including the Supervisor of Training and training staff.

Ensure timely notification of significant training or operational issues to the Chief Pilot, or to the Director of Operations/relevant authorities in their absence.

Contribute to the development of the General Operations Manual, training programs, operations specifications, and aircraft checklists.

Assist in the development of the Training Department budget to maintain cost-efficiency.

Preside over Pilot Review Boards for flight-related issues in the absence of the Chief Pilot.
Supervisory Responsibilities
The Assistant Chief Pilot directly supervises employees in the Aviation department. Responsibilities include interviewing, selecting, hiring, training, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding, disciplining, and resolving complaints.
Qualifications

Education:
Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:
Five to eight years of related experience and/or training; minimum of 2,500 flight hours; two years of experience in a Part 135 operation; two years of ground and flight training experience.

Skills:
Professional demeanor, excellent interpersonal skills, and effective oral/written communication. Ability to manage broad tasks, exercise sound judgment, and prepare reports for senior leadership.

Computer Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Certificates/Licenses:
Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (preferred), Certified Flight Instructor (preferred), Certified Instrument Instructor (preferred). FAA Second Class Medical required for check airman/instructor duties.
Additional Requirements
Candidates must possess thorough knowledge of company policies, the General Operations Manual (GOM), and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs). This position requires regular attendance, including potential nights and weekends. The role is subject to drug and alcohol testing per DOT/FAA requirements.
Compensation
Salary Range:
USD $108,500.00 – $162,750.00 per year.
