Job Opportunity: Digital Technology / Drone Pilot Apprentice
AECOM Hunt is actively seeking a motivated Digital Technology / Drone Pilot Apprentice to join its esteemed Construction Management team in Los Angeles, California. This apprenticeship is designed to provide comprehensive, hands-on training, bridging academic knowledge with essential professional skills.
Key Responsibilities:
The apprentice will support field engineers and surveyors, enhancing project workflows through the following key activities:
- Conducting supervised drone flights using DroneDeploy flight paths to capture high-quality site imagery and video. This includes documentation of:
- Existing site conditions
- Excavation and earthwork progress
- Foundations and footing layout verification
- Steel erection sequencing
- Decking, rebar, and formwork status
- MEP in-deck utilities and conduit verification
- Pad placements and underground utility tie-ins
- Processing captured drone data into professional deliverables such as orthomosaics, 3D models, point clouds, and volume reports.
- Uploading all project deliverables into AECOM Hunt's construction management platforms, including Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Revizto, Navisworks, and DroneDeploy.
- Assisting in Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) processes by meticulously documenting as-built conditions prior to cover-up.
- Maintaining accurate and consistent flight logs, equipment checklists, and photo/video archives to ensure comprehensive project records.
Additional Responsibilities and Training Opportunities:
Apprentices will receive training and contribute to various project-related tasks based on evolving project requirements and team needs. These may include:
- Participating in clash detection reviews within coordination platforms.
- Conducting job walks to verify as-built conditions accurately.
- Serving as a dedicated site safety officer, ensuring adherence to safety protocols at all times while on site.
- Producing essential jobsite imaging for project documentation.
- Reviewing issue lists generated by VDC Managers or Superintendents and actively assisting in action planning.
- Supporting the team through diverse documentation methods, including 360 photos, laser scans, drone flights, video, and traditional photo documentation for robust data retrieval, covering existing conditions and tracking progress on new and ongoing construction activities.
Required Qualifications:
- Current enrollment in a construction technology program is mandatory.
- Demonstrated drone piloting skills and progress towards FAA certification.
- Completion of at least two semesters (equivalent to 270 instructional hours) focusing on aerial data capture, site documentation, OSHA safety training, and classroom-based drone operations.
- Possession of a valid U.S. driver's license. Successful candidates must also pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records review as a condition of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- FAA Part 107 (Remote Pilot Certificate)
- OSHA 10-Hour Safety Certification
