WASS Pilot – Fixed Wing – PC OCONUS
AAR, a leading provider of innovative aerospace solutions, seeks a highly qualified and experienced WASS Pilot to join its Worldwide Aviation Support Services (WASS) program. The WASS program, an AAR business, provides global expeditionary and conventional aviation solutions to the US Department of State Air Wing. This position requires a dedicated aviation professional to operate within a dynamic and demanding environment.
The Pilot will serve as Pilot in Command of a DHC-8 aircraft and, when necessary, as Second in Command. They will be responsible for planning flight assignments, obtaining all necessary information regarding flight purpose, weather conditions, operational procedures, and special instructions. This includes the meticulous preparation or supervision of flight plans, taking into account altitude, terrain, weather, range, weight, cruise control data, airport facilities, and navigational aids.
The successful candidate will ensure the proper flight kit is onboard, and that all required airworthiness inspections have been completed and any previous discrepancies are corrected or properly deferred in accordance with the aircraft's MEL. They will supervise or execute the aircraft preflight inspection and preparation. The pilot will verify the proper loading, distribution, and security of all cargo, and ensure that any carry-on baggage is properly stowed. A critical aspect of this role is verifying the aircraft weight and balance are within prescribed limits, and accurately preparing the Aircraft Flight Maintenance Log, Load Manifest, and Discrepancy Record. These documents must be delivered to the Operation Support Manager for filing upon completion of each flight. The pilot will also be responsible for ensuring survival equipment and special emergency equipment, such as life vests, are onboard when required. They retain final responsibility for logging of aircraft flight time, filing and closing flight plans, and preparation of flight and duty time records. Furthermore, this individual ensures the preparation of required aircraft maintenance documents, reports any mechanical irregularities, and ensures proper recording of maintenance by maintenance personnel when performed away from the main operations base. They are responsible for safety and assuring ramp security is maintained during passenger boarding and disembarking. Prior to each flight, the pilot ensures security assessments are made and the rules of engagement are understood. Maintaining adequate rest and proper dress are essential components of the role. The pilot can delegate functions to other personnel, but ultimately retains responsibility. This role requires the ability to travel routinely OCONUS and occasionally within the CONUS as required. Additional duties may be assigned as needed. This position requires a U.S. Security Clearance.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- FAA Commercial and Instrument Airman’s Certificate Airplane MEL.
- FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit.
- Current FAA Class II Medical certificate.
- Successful completion of FAA Type Rating Course in the selected type required before assignment.
- 1500 total fixed wing flight hours, including 500 hours of turbine engine time and 250 hours of multi-engine land (MEL) pilot in command time.
- Unrestricted type rating.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior U.S. Military FW Transport pilot qualification and/or support on the DoS INLA program.
- FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) rating.
