Worldwide Aviation Support Services (WASS), an AAR business headquartered in Rockledge, Florida, provides world-class expeditionary and conventional aviation solutions to the US Department of State Air Wing.
Role Description
This Reserve Pilot position is home-based, requiring travel to Rockledge, Florida, and various CONUS locations for pre-deployment qualification training. Upon successful completion, the candidate will travel to OCONUS sites on a temporary duty assignment (TDY) basis until a permanent OCONUS rotational position becomes available.
The role necessitates extensive domestic and international travel, potentially up to 180 days annually, typically in 17-60-day intervals, until a permanent position aligned with the pilot's qualifications opens. Upon qualification, the candidate will transition to a full-time flight position.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain aircraft currency requirements in accordance with government regulations.
- Deploy routinely to OCONUS locations to augment staffing requirements.
- Prepare or oversee the preparation of flight plans, considering factors like altitude, terrain, weather, range, weight, airport facilities, and navigation aids.
- Supervise or perform aircraft preflight inspection and preparation.
- Ensure proper loading, distribution, and security of cargo and passengers, verifying compliance with aircraft weight and balance limits.
- Maintain flight time records, file and close flight plans, and prepare flight and duty time records.
- Conduct pre-takeoff passenger briefings.
- Assist in identifying training needs, planning, administering, and overseeing academic programs for Fixed Wing crew members.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and present reports and recommendations to management.
- Assist in recruiting qualified candidates.
- Ensure compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and all relevant state and local government policies, standards, procedures, and aviation laws.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Deputy Chief of Standards.
Basic Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1,500 total fixed wing flight hours, including 500 hours of turbine engine time.
- FAA Commercial and Instrument Airman's Certificate Airplane, MEL.
- FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit.
- Current FAA Class II Medical Certificate.
- Successful completion of FAA Type Rating in the selected type required before assignment.
- Completion of fixed wing aircraft, DHC-8, Readiness Level (RL) training within 90 days of obtaining FAA type rating. Aircraft qualification training will include travel to Iraq in a TDY status.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally for up to 120 days annually, in intervals of 14 to 60 days.
- Minimum 250 hours multi-engine pilot-in-command time.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- FAA CFI-CFII-MEI.
- FAA ATP rating.
- Prior military pilot experience and/or pilot support on the DoS INLA program.
- Qualification in the applicable aircraft DHC-8.
- Prior experience as a military standardization pilot or civilian equivalent.
- Bachelor's degree or higher.
- Active U.S. DoD Security Clearance.
OCONUS Requirements
- Ability to pass physical screening.
- Passport with at least 18 months of validity remaining.
