Second Officer
Main Objective of Role:
The Second Officer plays a crucial role as the second-in-command within the flight crew. Supporting the Captain, this position is instrumental in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the aircraft. The Second Officer diligently executes assigned duties, strictly adheres to instructions, and shares significant responsibility for the safety, security, and well-being of the crew, passengers, cargo, and equipment. Upholding the highest operational standards, the ideal candidate exemplifies integrity, leadership, and professionalism, making ethical and decisive decisions in both normal and contingency operations under the Captain's ultimate authority.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supports the Captain in maintaining ultimate responsibility and accountability for the safe operation of the airplane, crew, passengers, and cargo, ensuring strict compliance with UAE GCAA and international aviation regulations, company policies and procedures, and industry standards.
- Performs delegated flight duties in full compliance with company policies, aviation regulations, and safety standards. Fosters professionalism and collaboration among the crew through effective leadership and Crew Resource Management (CRM), while consistently upholding the company's commitment to safety, efficiency, and operational excellence.
- Executes all duties with precision and professionalism, strictly adhering to the company's Operations Manuals, SOPs, and policies to ensure compliance and operational integrity. Proposes alternative actions when needed, guided by sound Crew Resource Management (CRM) principles.
- Monitors aircraft systems, performance, and navigation, promptly addressing irregularities and ensuring strict adherence to the flight plan. Identifies, documents, and reports safety incidents, SOP breaches, or operational irregularities, proactively highlighting opportunities to enhance safety and efficiency. Ensures all reports are accurate, comprehensive, and submitted through appropriate channels in compliance with regulatory and company requirements.
- Conducts thorough pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight checks to ensure the serviceability of emergency systems and flight deck equipment. Shares responsibility for the aircraft, passengers, crew, and operations from boarding to shut down, overseeing critical activities such as fueling and loading. Immediately alerts the Commander of any irregularities.
- Supports the Captain by assisting with responsibilities for the crew from the time of reporting for duty at the Base of Operations. Acts in a supporting role at outstations and during layovers, and contributes to the safe and efficient management of all aspects of return sector(s) until release following post-flight duties upon return to base.
- Assists the Captain, who as the aircraft Commander holds full accountability and responsibility for all operational decisions and the overall conduct of the flight, ensuring strict compliance with all regulatory and company standards.
- Represents the airline as a brand ambassador by maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and appearance while on duty and in public. Supports the Captain in ensuring the crew consistently upholds the corporate and brand image, reporting any inconsistencies through established reporting mechanisms.
- Operates all flight duties in alignment with the airline's commercial objectives, expertly balancing operational efficiency with an unwavering commitment to safety and compliance with all regulatory requirements. Ensures that every decision made during flight operations supports the airline’s mission while maintaining the highest standards of aviation safety and operational excellence.
- Stays informed on the latest UAE GCAA and international aviation legislation, operational standards, and industry best practices. Proactively integrates this knowledge to ensure full legal compliance, adherence to procedures, and alignment with evolving industry trends and standards.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- Fluent in English
- Minimum 2,500 hours total flying time
- Minimum 1,000 hours on modern (EFIS), multi crew, multi engine airplane over 10 tons operating weight (PIC time preferable)
- Minimum 1500 hours Multi-Pilot Aircraft (MPA) flying time
- ICAO English Language Proficiency requirements (Level 4 or above)
- Unrestricted class 1 Pilot Medical Certificate from an ICAO Compliant State
- ICAO Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL)

Information Security Risk (ISR) Requirements:
The Second Officer reads and complies with the Company's Information Security Risk (ISR) policies and diligently reports any weakness or incidents to the respective Line Manager or the Information Security team. Completes all required ISR awareness sessions and follows associated guidelines in the day-to-day business operations.
