Role Summary
The First Officer serves as Second-in-Command (SIC) of the flight. The successful candidate will operate B747-400 or MD-11 fleet types. While acting in this capacity, the First Officer is responsible for complying with all relevant regulations and directives pertaining to the safe and efficient conduct of the flight, working closely under the guidance of the Captain. This is a demanding role involving a standard tour of duty of 17 days away from the home base. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The First Officer is tasked with ensuring operational compliance and professionalism throughout their tenure, including:
- Operating all flights strictly in accordance with Western Global Airlines’ approved/accepted manuals, Operations Specifications, 14 CFRs, FAA Orders, Airworthiness Directives, Advisory Circulars, Directives, and Manufacturer’s recommendations.
- Adhering to all administrative programs, including requirements for airport/route qualification, flight time limitations, currency maintenance (e.g., physical examinations, takeoffs and landings, home study courses), pilot flight equipment standards, uniform discipline, and compliance with all company manuals, policies, and procedures, as assigned.
Required Qualifications and Technical Requirements
Prospective candidates must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Possession of a current and valid FAA Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL).
- Holding a valid FAA Class 1 Medical Certificate.
- Possession of an FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit.
- Demonstration of ICAO English Level IV proficiency or higher.
- A minimum of 2,500 hours of total flying experience.
- Must have no history of accidents or incidents.
- Possession of a valid US passport that allows unrestricted international travel, necessary due to military contract requirements.
- Must possess the ability to successfully pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) pre-employment drug test and a comprehensive 10-year background check, as this is a safety-sensitive role.
- Previous Part 121 airline or comparable commercial aviation experience is preferred.
Preferred and Ideal Candidate Skills
Candidates demonstrating the following qualifications are considered highly competitive:
- A college degree in Aviation or a related academic field.
- Previous type rating on B747-400 / Boeing aircraft or MD-11 / Airbus aircraft.
- A minimum of 1,000 hours of flight time accumulated under Part 121 operations.
- Up to 500 hours of military flight time logged as Pilot in Command (PIC) of a multiengine, turbine-powered, fixed-wing airplane may count toward the 1,000-hour flight time requirement.
- Experience as a Pilot in Command in operations conducted under either § 135.243(a)(1) or § 91.1053(a)(2)(i), or any combination thereof.
