The Collins Aerospace Flight Test Engineering team is looking for a motivated individual to be an Engineering Test Pilot to lead in developing complex engineering solutions. The Flight Test Engineering organization is part of the Integrated Strategic Solutions Engineering (ISSE) organization responsible for the design, development, and test and evaluation of flight solutions in support external customers including armed services both domestic and international.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated flight test and evaluation experience from a HW and SW perspective. They will also have an unwavering positive attitude, be highly responsive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, and strive to perform high-quality work proactively and efficiently. This person will consistently demonstrate professionalism in their interactions with all levels of the organization and will routinely go above and beyond expectations in performing their work. They will have the ability to work independently, while analyzing equipment and conducting experimental tests to establish operating data.

This is a multi-faceted role requiring versatility across a variety of tasks in a highly collaborative environment. The role requires working closely with engineers and leaders, at various locations around the globe, to ensure project success. Organizationally, the role reports to an engineering manager in the ISSE organization.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Pilot C-130J aircraft for engineering and experimental test flights to validate and verify compliance with military specifications, FARs, and determine operational suitability.
  • Participate in test plan development, test plan reviews, Safety Review Boards, First Flight Readiness Reviews and Design Review Boards.
  • Assist with the development of Operating Procedures and Aircraft Operating Limitations for flight test programs
  • Pilot C-130J aircraft during production acceptance and functional check flights.
  • Pilot C-130J aircraft on delivery and ferry flights.
  • May conduct demonstration flights with customers, government officials, or other personnel aboard to exhibit C-130J performance, flying qualities and system capabilities.
  • Participate in planning for requirements definition and Statement of Work development for C-130J testing, production acceptance, training, and engineering design support.
  • Assist engineering and flight test with the development of ground and flight test procedures.
  • Review, validate, verify, and update flight manuals and source material.
  • Perform as a C-130J instructor pilot for company and customer pilots.
  • Conduct classroom training for company and customer aircrew.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a sanctioned Test Pilot course (i.e., USNTPS, ETPS, EPNER, NTPS).
  • Ability to conduct developmental C-130 flight test at the most critical test conditions of loading, speed, maneuvering, and configuration. Ability to determine maximum limits of safe aircraft operation and aerodynamic stability where a substantial degree of hazard exists.
  • FAA Commercial Pilot or Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate.
  • Current or formerly qualified military Instructor Pilot.
  • Current FAA Second Class or First Class physical or able to obtain within 30 days of hiring.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • FAA Licenses: Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) – Airplane Multi-engine Land. Flight Instructor (CFI) – Airplane Multi-engine and/or Instrument Airplane. L-382 L-382J or L-382J-1 Type Rating.
  • Current and qualified as a C-130J Instructor Pilot or Flight Examiner.
  • Minimum of 100 hours of developmental, engineering, or experimental flight test time.
  • Pilot with at least 1,500 hours total flying time in multi-engine aircraft.
  • Must have at least 1,000 hours Pilot-in-Command (PIC)/Aircraft Commander flying time.
  • 300 hours PIC time in transport type aircraft.
  • Current or previously qualified to conduct C-130 Functional or Acceptance Check Flight (FCF/ACF) operations.
  • Experience in legacy C-130 models (e.g., C-130H, KC-130T etc.).
  • Current passport
  • Experience with hardware, software, or systems engineering development programs
  • Experience with ground and flight test execution for DoD based mission aircraft
  • Willing to work evenings and weekends and willing to travel domestically and internationally for up to 30 days at a time.
  • Active TOP SECRET clearance

The salary range for this role is 112,000 USD – 236,000 USD; however, Raytheon Technologies considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
