Role Summary
Boeing Defence United Kingdom (BDUK) Ltd is actively delivering the Long Term Training and Support Service (LTTSS) for the Apache AH-64E. Boeing Test & Evaluation is seeking experienced Central Flying School (CFS) trained Apache Qualified Helicopter Instructors to serve as Deputy Regimental Qualified Helicopter Instructors (DRQHI) for the 3 and 4 Regiments Army Air Corps (AAC) at Wattisham Flying Station. This pivotal role ensures the highest standards of instruction and operational readiness for AH-64E aircrew.
Key Responsibilities
The Deputy Regimental Qualified Helicopter Instructor (DRQHI) will be instrumental in all facets of AH-64E aircrew training and operational support, including:
- Instructional Leadership: Delivering comprehensive ground and air training to AH-64E aircrew, encompassing all duties expected of a DRQHI. Contributing significantly to the development of aircrew instructional philosophy, evaluation criteria, and methodologies for standardizing training materials. Supervising the regiments' aircrew and instructors, ensuring adherence to established training protocols. Developing Assistant Instructors (AIs) through 'train the trainer' initiatives.
- Operational Readiness & Assurance: Maintaining operational competency equivalent to that required of a Front Line (FL) Apache crew. Assisting in the assurance of flying and ground-based competencies for the regiments' aircrew. Performing instructional duties as aircraft captain across the full AH-64E operating spectrum.
- Aircraft Testing & Support: Participating in ground and flight test activities in support of ongoing maintenance programs. Conducting flight testing of aircraft as required.
- Administrative & Standards Management: Supporting the Regimental Qualified Helicopter Instructor (RQHI) in their duties. Executing directives from the Commanding Officer (CO), Staff Officer (SO), and Senior Flight Instructor (SFI) as necessary. Managing flying records for the regiments' aircrew. Assisting in ensuring the technical accuracy, completeness, and overall quality of all training products. Identifying potential risks, issues, and opportunities, and supporting the development of effective mitigation plans.
Qualifications
Essential Requirements:
Candidates are required to possess the following qualifications and attributes:
- Current or previous Certificate of Qualification on Type (CQT) for the AH-64E or Apache Mk1.
- Thorough understanding of general aviation principles coupled with extensive experience flying in the United Kingdom.
- Possession of a military pilot's flying brevet previously awarded by a NATO country.
- Capability to pass a UK military aviation medical examination, ideally without limitations.
- Demonstrated ability to identify when safety within the flying environment may be compromised and to act decisively to enhance aviation safety.
- A diplomatic yet resolute personality is essential for effective interaction with UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) and wider Boeing stakeholders.
- The ability to obtain SC (Security Check) clearance.
Preferred Competencies:
While not essential, candidates possessing the following will be highly regarded:
- UK Central Flying School (CFS) Qualified Helicopter Instructor – A2 category. Expressions of interest from B1 category instructors are also welcomed.
- Recent experience in Front Line (FL) Attack Aviation operations.
- Prior experience in QHI supervisory roles, such as DRQHI, RQHI, SFI, or Aviation Standards.
- Additional instructional qualifications, including Instrument Rating Examiner (IRE), or expertise in electronic warfare or weapons.
- Experience in instructor development or 'train the trainer' methodologies.
- Enhanced Air Test Qualification.

- Travel: Some UK travel may be required to support aircraft ferry tasks or out-of-area training.
- Contract Award: This position is contingent upon contract award.
