About the Role:
FlySafair is seeking a highly motivated and experienced First Officer to join our team. This position is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of aircraft in accordance with company regulations and procedures. The successful candidate will work closely with the Captain to maintain a high standard of professional expertise and morale within the crew.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations:
- Ensure the safety of the flight in a timely manner.
- Monitor the flight path and systems of the aircraft.
- Perform pre-flight, in-flight and post-flight checks and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with internal departments, external service providers, and passengers.
- Navigate and operate the flight.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, company policies and procedures.
- Uphold FlySafair's core competitive edge of providing excellent customer service.
- Submit accurate and complete legal administrative documentation.
- Assume command of the aircraft in the event of the Captain's incapacitation.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Stay updated with the latest applicable SACAA and international aviation laws, as well as company Operations Manuals.
- Maintain familiarity with relevant sections of the company Operations Manual.
- Assist the Captain with operational and administrative duties related to the flight.
- Support the Captain in maintaining a high standard of crew discipline, behavior, and personal appearance.
Flight-Specific Duties:
- Carry out duties concerning the flight in accordance with FlySafair's Standard Operating Procedures, including procedures, limitations, and performance relating to the specific aircraft type.
- Confirm the safe navigation of the aircraft, maintaining a continuous and independent check of the aircraft's geographical position and safe terrain clearance.
- Volunteer relevant advice, information, and assistance to the Captain to contribute to the safe and efficient conduct of the flight.
- Maintain a high personal standard of discipline, conduct, and appearance as a representative of FlySafair.
Pre-Flight Responsibilities:
- Ensure full awareness of the planned flight route, briefing sheets, and the forecast including conditions and runway states at the destination and alternate aerodromes.
- Perform all checks outlined in the Operations Manual and complete all required documents accordingly.
- Work collaboratively with the Captain to review all necessary documents and information to make informed decisions regarding fuel selection, alternates, and any restrictions that may be present on the flight.
In-Flight Responsibilities:
- Perform or monitor the execution of all normal, abnormal, and emergency checklists in accordance with the Operations Manual, ensuring their proper completion.
- Monitor all aspects of the flight, verifying that correct procedures and techniques are used, cross-checking all flight instrument indications, especially altitude/height, speed, and heading.
- Immediately advise the Captain if the aircraft deviates from the planned flight path, if a hazardous situation arises, or if any abnormal instrument readings, warning lights, or indicators are detected.
- Conduct R/T communications as required.
Post-Flight Responsibilities:
- Ensure all post-flight procedures are completed according to the Operations Manual and Flight Crew Operating Manual (FCOM).
- Submit all relevant documentation and/or reports, such as Incident/Quality Safety Management System (IQSMS) reports.
Essential Requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- SACAA Commercial Pilot License (CPL).
- SACAA Class 1 Medical Certificate.
- Non-Type Rated or Boeing Type rated with a minimum of 1500 hours, including 500 hours Multi-Turbine time.
- Multi-Crew experience.
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of National Aviation regulations such as SACAA and ICAO.
- Knowledge of Doc 8186.
- Knowledge of Commercial and Airline Transport Pilots licensing content.
Preferred Requirements:
- SACAA Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL).
- Type rating on Boeing aircraft.
- Experience on Commercial Jets over 20 Tons.
Other Requirements:
- No existing medical conditions.
- Willingness to sign applicable training bonds.
- No criminal record.
- Willingness to undergo drug and alcohol testing.
- Own transport and valid RSA Driver's License.
- South African Citizen with proof of identity.
- Valid RSA Passport.
- Willingness to work irregular hours on a roster.
