Experimental Flight Test Pilot
for its Torrance, California location. This full-time position involves contributing to the development and certification of experimental rotorcraft within a dedicated flight test team.
About the Role
The Experimental Flight Test Pilot plays a crucial role in the planning, execution, analysis, and reporting of ground and flight tests for experimental rotorcraft and associated systems. This position offers the opportunity to guide complex aircraft from development through certification, contributing to the future of vertical flight in a dynamic, engineering-focused organization.
Responsibilities

Serve as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) for development, research, and certification flight tests of experimental rotorcraft.

Conduct diverse and complex flight test projects, including the creation of flight test plans, test cards, and comprehensive flight and test reports.

Lead or participate in ground and flight tests as pilot, test crew member, or Test Conductor.

Collaborate with stakeholders to define test strategies, configurations, and execute test programs efficiently and safely.

Adhere to department processes and standard operating procedures to ensure high standards of safety, effectiveness, consistency, and efficiency in flight testing.

Contribute innovative insights to enhance the product and the organization.

Participate in multi-disciplinary design reviews and assist in resolving cross-functional technical issues.

Engage actively in the Flight Test Safety Program, including plan reviews, test flights, briefings, and readiness reviews.

Interface with regulatory bodies (e.g., FAA, EASA, TCCA) flight test personnel during aircraft certification flight test activities.

Maintain required records and conduct audits for process and procedure compliance.

Maintain flying currency and proficiency across multiple aircraft types.
Requirements

Pilot graduate of a SETP recognized test pilot school or possess substantial experience in development and certification flight test programs.

Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field or equivalent experience.

A minimum of 5 years of experience as an experimental rotary-wing (RW) test pilot.

FAA Commercial Helicopter Pilot Certificate.

FAA Second Class Medical.

A minimum of 1,000 flight hours as Helicopter PIC.

Significant experience managing risk and safety within the flight test environment.

Experience in development and type certification flight test programs for fixed- or rotary-wing aircraft.

Excellent academic record.

Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Team-oriented, possessing a positive attitude, and capable of working collaboratively.

Ability to work irregular hours and workdays, with periodic travel requirements.

Proven self-starter requiring minimal supervision, with strong project management, organization, and risk management skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and relevant engineering software tools.
