First Officer
This position supports the aircraft Captain in ensuring the safe and timely operation of aircraft, while also performing essential aircraft management duties. The First Officer will contribute to a reliable and on-time flight operation by assisting the Captain in all phases of flight.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide the Captain with meticulous flight planning, utilizing all applicable weather information and reports, adhering to Company policies, procedures, and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs).
- Verify aircraft airworthiness through preflight inspections in accordance with FARs and Company guidelines.
- Collaborate with the Captain to ensure proper flight planning and fuel management for safe and compliant operations.
- Operate the aircraft safely and effectively during assigned duty periods, following the Captain's instructions, FARs, and Company policies.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of aircraft equipment, FARs, manuals, and all relevant operational instructions.
- Inform crew and passengers of any conditions affecting the flight, including weather turbulence.
- Complete the load manifest for every flight.
- Assist the Captain in meeting all reporting, departure, and turn times, thereby contributing to on-time performance.
- Provide support at the terminal, ensuring proper handling of aircraft, passengers, baggage, and cargo.
- Maintain consistent and dependable attendance as per Company regulations.
- Present a professional appearance, adhering to the Company uniform dress code.
- Conduct oneself with professionalism at all times, upholding the standards outlined in the Flight Operations Manual, Associate Handbook, and related policies.
- Engage in ongoing professional training to enhance performance and capabilities.
- Undertake any additional duties as assigned by the Company or the Captain.
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must meet the minimum requirements for an ATP or RATP certificate.
- ATP written examination preferred.
- Must meet current interview and hiring minimum age and flight hour requirements set by the FAA and the Company.
- Candidates meeting interview minimums, but not hiring minimums, may be eligible for hire upon successful interview completion, contingent upon:
- Meeting hiring minimums within six months of the interview date.
- No certificate actions since the interview date.
- No misdemeanors or felonies since the interview date.
- Acceptance of class date within six months of the interview date.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior customer service experience, particularly within an aviation environment.
Essential Skills:
- Exceptional ability to read, analyze, interpret, and understand technical procedures and governmental regulations, including under stressful conditions.
- Effective communication and presentation skills to interact with management, dispatch, crew, passengers, air traffic control, and the general public.
- Fluency in English, including the ability to give clear verbal commands during emergency situations.
- Ability to problem-solve practically and adapt to situations with limited standardization.
- Capacity to interpret diverse instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats.
- Ability to remain composed and react swiftly during various emergency scenarios.
Decision Making & Impact:
The First Officer makes decisions that support strategic objectives, with typical decisions having medium-range impact and moderate consequences. However, in unusual circumstances, decisions may have significant safety-of-flight implications, potentially requiring additional resource allocation. The First Officer must maintain the ability to process information rapidly and react positively in unexpected situations, controlling personal and emotional responses under pressure.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, and/or crawl.
- Capacity to sit for extended periods.
- Ability to lift or move objects up to 75 pounds at various heights.
- Compliance with visual standards established by the FAA.
- Ability to hear clearly in various communication settings, including high noise environments.
- Sufficient stamina to work long hours over multiple days, with frequent changes in environmental conditions.
- Ability to move freely and effectively within the confines of the aircraft.
- Ability to sit in pilot's seat or assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened without any modifications.
Work Environment:
- This position requires working in close proximity to moving mechanical parts.
- Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including open-air hangars and on the flight line.
- Exposure to high noise levels, requiring the use of a headset.
- Must be willing to work extended duty periods over consecutive days, on a varied schedule, including early mornings, nights, overnights, and weekends.
Travel Requirements:
Must be willing and able to travel up to 100% of the time, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight stays, with limited schedule control and short notice to report for duty. Must be open to relocation based on Company operational needs.
