Executive Jet Management, a Berkshire Hathaway company and pioneer in aircraft management and worldwide jet charter services, is seeking qualified candidates for a Pilot in Command position based in Detroit, Michigan (DTW). This role supports a well-established account operating multiple corporate jets from DTW, supported by dedicated maintenance technicians, flight attendants, and pilots. The position is based in Detroit and is not commutable, requiring candidates to reside within driving distance of DTW airport.
The Pilot in Command holds final responsibility for ensuring the aircraft is operated in a safe, compliant, and efficient manner. This role requires strict adherence to all company and regulatory requirements while consistently delivering an exceptional service experience to owners and passengers.
Responsibilities:
Ensuring the Safe Operation of Flight:
- Confirms crewing and trip assignments meet company and regulatory requirements.
- Completes flight planning, performance, and weight and balance tasks for assigned flights.
- Leads required briefings using Threats, Plans, and Considerations (TPC) methodology to mitigate operational risks.
- Complies with company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and coordinates with company personnel as needed. Acts as the Ground Security and In-Flight Security Coordinator according to company policy.
- Completes all aircraft pre-flight tasks, including verifying the maintenance status, to ensure the aircraft is mission capable. Records all aircraft discrepancies in accordance with company SOPs.
- Monitors and ensures completion of all aircraft ground servicing items (e.g., fueling, oil, oxygen) in accordance with SOPs.
- Conducts passenger briefings in accordance with company policy and regulation. Delivers the highest level of customer service and accommodates any special needs of passengers.
- Utilizes Crew Resource Management (CRM) and Threat and Error Management (TEM) for clear and timely communication with crew and support personnel during all phases of operation.
Delivering an Exceptional Service Experience:
- Provides quality service to owners and passengers, identifying opportunities to enhance the EJM service experience. Investigates and resolves service deviations.
- Collaborates with fellow crew members and internal EJM partners to ensure a consistent service experience. Resolves conflict and challenges appropriately.
Maintaining Proficiency and Compliance:
- Maintains all required regulatory and company training and recency of experience.
- Complies with the company Safety Management System (SMS) program and reports safety or non-compliance concerns through appropriate channels.
Certifications and Licenses:
- FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate
- FAA First Class Medical Certificate
Experience:
- 4-6 years of aviation experience preferred.
- Prior experience in corporate/business aviation is preferred.
- FAA Type rating in the applicable fleet is required.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position.
Minimum Time Requirements:
- Total flight time: 3500 hours
- Multi Engine Land (MEL): 1500 hours
- Pilot in Command: 2000 hours
- PIC MEL: 500 hours
- Instrument: 300 hours
- Jet: 500 hours
Preferred Qualifications:
- Local candidates residing within driving distance to DTW.
- Experience flying Gulfstream or similar size aircraft.
- International flight experience.
