Position Overview and Compensation
Location: Durango, CO, USA (Durango-La Plata County Airport - KDRO)
Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt
Salary Range: $87,000 - $140,000 per year.
Compensation Structure: The compensation package includes a base salary guaranteed for 50 commercial flight hours per month. Monthly flight time exceeding this 50-hour guarantee is compensated at an additional hourly rate above the base salary.
American Jet International (AJI), operating under the Million Air ethos, seeks a dedicated and professional Pilot in Command (PIC) to join its flight crew division. This position is integral to maintaining the highest standards of safety and service within the Part 135 charter flight operations.
The Role of the Pilot in Command (PIC)
The Pilot in Command (PIC) is responsible for providing outstanding, safe, secure, and convenient air transportation services to charter clients. This role demands excellent, in-depth knowledge of company procedures, adherence to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, and a proactive commitment to customer satisfaction.
Unlike typical Part 135 pilot roles, which often involve extended trips away from home, the Million Air/American Jet International team focuses on unique mission profiles, including life-saving operations, which often provide lifestyle advantages concerning time away from home and family.
The Part 135 charter fleet consists of a variety of mid-cabin aircraft. Specific aircraft type training will be provided to qualified candidates with requisite hours.
Core Responsibilities and Duties
The PIC operates independently, often based remotely, and reports directly to the Chief Pilot and the Director of Operations. Essential functions include:
- Upholding the highest safety standards in continuous collaboration with the Safety Manager, ensuring safety is never compromised.
- Maintaining the highest level of competency and skill proficiency within the assigned aircraft type.
- Conducting thorough aircraft inspections to ensure pristine cleanliness and upkeep prior to passenger arrival.
- Providing professional and friendly greetings to guests.
- Developing strong rapport and positive relationships with aircraft owners and passengers.
- Ensuring timely and effective communication (in person, phone, and email) and advising Flight Operations regarding specific customer preferences.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Prospective Pilots in Command must meet or exceed the following minimum criteria:
- Possession of a valid Commercial Pilot Certificate with a Multi-Engine Addon.
- Accumulation of 1,500 hours total flight time; previous Part 135 experience is highly preferred.
- Possession of a current, valid 1st Class Medical Certificate.
- Demonstrated ability to be highly knowledgeable of 14 CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) and FAA regulations.
- Must satisfy the requirements outlined in 14 CFR Part 135.243(a)(1) and (c).
- Preference will be given to candidates who are already typed and experienced in the Gulfstream G-150 aircraft.
Additional Eligibility and Work Requirements
- Must live within 30 minutes of the Durango-La Plata County (KDRO) Airport or be willing to relocate to meet required response times for this remote base assignment.
- Must maintain an acceptable driving record and possess reliable transportation.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check.
- Commitment to operating within a zero-tolerance, drug-free workplace.
- This position requires scheduling flexibility, including varying duty schedules, and requires working evenings, weekends, and scheduled company holidays.
