King Air Captain – Specialized ISR Aviation

Primary Location: Rotational deployment across Europe (including UK, Poland, Norway, Sweden). The home base of operations is the UK and Europe. Worldwide travel is required based on mission contract needs.

The Special Air Missions Group (SAM)

The Special Air Missions Group (SAM) is pivotal in developing and delivering Metrea’s core capabilities in Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR), Special Mobility, and Aerial Firefighting (AFF). SAM ensures operational readiness by overseeing fleet maintenance, integrating advanced mission systems, maintaining strict regulatory compliance, and managing strategic partnerships. The Group ensures airborne capabilities remain adaptable and mission-ready across diverse and dynamic operational environments.

Position Summary

The King Air Captain is appointed as the Pilot in Command (PIC) and holds primary responsibility for the safe, effective, and efficient operation of a multi-engine turboprop aircraft, specifically the King Air 300 series. This critical role ensures all missions are executed in strict adherence to UK CAA, FAA, and EASA policies, alongside the stringent Aviation Operations Europe Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The role demands proficiency in complex flight planning and coordination required for specialized ISR flights from both established and austere locations.

Key Responsibilities and Operational Duties

The selected Captain will act as the Pilot in Command, performing specialized missions under challenging conditions. Key responsibilities include:

• Operating the King Air 300 in compliance with all relevant EASA, CAA, FAA, and internal company/customer directives.
• Conducting all aspects of mission execution, including comprehensive flight planning, performing detailed aircraft pre-flight checks, and coordinating seamlessly with Company Site Leads, Air Traffic Control (ATC), and Mission Coordination Services.
• Maintaining continuous surveillance of crucial operational parameters, including airspace activity, meteorological conditions, mission flight boundaries, radio communications, and sophisticated aircraft systems.
• Executing complex Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) flights across day, night, and various weather conditions, strictly within defined safety limits.
• Demonstrating operational capability to utilize and operate from remote and austere locations, including unimproved runways, where necessary.
• Identifying aircraft system malfunctions promptly and implementing required corrective actions to maintain mission safety and effectiveness.
• Ensuring all flight documentation is completed meticulously in accordance with applicable industry and regulatory standards (EASA/CAA/FAA).

Essential Skills and Experience

Required Education and Experience

• A minimum of five GCSEs (or equivalent qualifications), including English and Mathematics.
• A minimum of 1,500 hours total flight time.
• A minimum of 1,000 hours as Pilot-in-Command (PIC).
• A minimum of 500 hours PIC flight time in multi-engine, turboprop aircraft.
• A minimum of 500 hours of cross-country flight time.
• A minimum of 200 hours of night flight time.

Required Licenses and Certifications

• A valid UK CAA or EASA Commercial Pilot License (CPL) with Instrument Rating (IR) OR Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) with Instrument Rating (IR).
• An FAA-issued Commercial Pilot License (CPL) with multi-engine land (AMEL) rating and Instrument rating OR an FAA-issued Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) license with multi-engine land (AMEL) rating.
• The Captain must hold and maintain a valid UK/EASA/FAA Class 1 Medical Certificate (1st Class FAA medical).
• A valid UK or EU passport is mandatory.

Desirable Qualifications and Expertise

• Valid FAA BE300 Type Rating.
• Valid UK or EASA BE300/1900 Type Rating.
• Proven experience in Commercial Special Missions or ISR aviation operations.
• A-Levels or equivalent further education are desirable.

Deployment and Logistics

This is a full-time, deployed position. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of all mandatory training, background checks, and necessary security clearances. Working hours and shift patterns will vary significantly in line with dynamic operational demands to ensure mission effectiveness.

The role involves rotational deployments within Europe, comprising mixed assignment lengths followed by a similar period off rotation. During deployments, the Captain must be capable of working effectively with minimal supervision in austere, arduous, and field conditions, as the work environment varies significantly based on mission contracts.
