Position Overview
These Direct Entry Captain (DEC) positions on the B737NG are based in Japan, with Skymark Airlines operating domestic services from its primary bases at Haneda and Narita International Airports. The airline offers robust contracts designed to attract and retain top aviation talent.
Contract and Compensation
- Contract Length: 3-year initial term, renewable every 3 years, with extensions available up to age 65.
- Salary Package: Approximately USD $161,000 net per year (after tax). Japanese income taxes are covered by Skymark Airlines post-fiscal year 2026.
- Commuting Options: Pilots may choose to reside in Japan or avail of an attractive commuting package, featuring 20 days on and 10 days off. Skymark Airlines provides a confirmed return ticket or a USD $500 monthly allowance in lieu for the commuting option.
- Bonuses and Allowances: Includes a contract completion bonus, renewal bonus, annual salary increments, and a ticketing allowance.
- Insurance: Comprehensive insurance coverage provided by IASCO Global.
- Additional Benefits: Housing allowance, 20 days of vacation leave (increasing to 24 days after the first 3 years), accommodation provided during training, and Japanese National Medical Insurance.
- Overtime: Overtime is compensated at USD $100 per hour above 75 hours. Duty-free days can be sold back at USD $1,000 per day, with all associated taxes paid by Skymark.
- Vacation Sell-Back: Vacation days can be sold back to Skymark, subject to operational requirements.
Requirements
- Minimum 5,000 hours total flight time.
- Minimum 1,500 hours as Pilot in Command (PIC) on commercial jet aircraft.
- A valid ATPL license with a current medical certificate.
- Must have operated as PIC within the last 12 months.
- Previous airline experience is essential.
- Age Restrictions: Maximum age of 55 for type-rated pilots, and 50 for non-type-rated pilots.
- Preferred Qualifications: B737NG type rating and a JCAB (Japan Civil Aviation Bureau) license are preferred but not mandatory. Skymark Airlines covers type rating and other necessary training costs.

Training
- Duration: Approximately 6 months.
- Location: Training center located at Haneda Airport.
- Training Pay: Approximately USD $10,000 per month (subject to exchange rates).
- Accommodation during Training: An apartment in downtown Tokyo is provided by Skymark Airlines.
Bases
Upon successful completion of training and checks, pilots will be based at one of the following locations, subject to availability: Kobe, Narita, Haneda, or Okinawa. Information regarding international schooling options in Kobe is available.
