Position Summary
Reporting to the Lead Captain, the Pilot in Command is responsible for the safe and efficient execution of flight assignments, prioritizing safety, security, and quality. This role exercises full authority over all assigned flights and serves as the final authority for the safe conduct of each flight.
Minimum Requirements
- Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with appropriate Aircraft Type Rating
- Valid FAA First Class Medical Certificate (must be maintained)
- 4,000 hours Total Fixed Wing Experience
- 1,500 hours Multi-Engine Land Experience
- 2,000 hours Pilot-in-Command Experience
- 1,500 hours Turbojet Experience
- 1,500 hours Turbine Time
- 100 hours Night Experience
- 75 hours Actual or Simulated Instrument Experience
- 5 years of aviation experience
- Ability to work flexible schedules
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively worldwide without restrictions
- Valid driver's license
Main Responsibilities
- Safely operate the aircraft, determine departure times and routes, and cancel flights as necessary based on weather or other conditions.
- Ensure strict adherence to all federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures throughout the flight.
- Implement necessary changes en route to ensure continued flight operations in compliance with company policies, procedures, and rules.
- Conduct flights in a safe and prudent manner, adhering to industry and company standards.
- Accurately complete all trip paperwork in accordance with current procedures.
- Ensure a thorough and complete understanding with the second in command regarding all aspects of the flight.
- Record all aircraft discrepancies on the aircraft discrepancy log and promptly report these discrepancies to the Director of Maintenance or their designee. Refer to the approved MEL and determine, in consultation with the DOM or their designee, whether an inoperative item can be deferred or requires immediate repair, completing the aircraft discrepancy log as required.
- Verify that flight crew members report for duty in proper attire and are mentally and physically fit for duty.
- Maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of all aircraft systems authorized for operation, including emergency systems and procedures.
- Secure the aircraft after each flight, arranging hangar storage as deemed necessary or instructed by company management.
- Obtain the most up-to-date weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMS from a FAA flight service station or other authorized agency.
- File or initiate the filing of a flight plan with the FAA or an ICAO state ATC facility.
- Analyze area, en route, and terminal charts for the intended airport of landing and alternate airports.
- Perform the functions of the In TSA Flight Security Coordinator (ISC) under the provisions of the twelve-five standard security program or private charter standard security program, as applicable.
- Conduct or delegate the passenger safety briefings to the second in command.
- Impart knowledge and skills to the second in command to prepare them to assume the duties of Pilot in Command in an emergency or when the second in command upgrades to pilot in command in that aircraft.
- Complete and send the leg manifest to operations control prior to each departure.
- Complete and send the End of Day (EOD) report to operations control upon completion of each flight day.
- Take an active role in supporting the open sharing of information on all safety issues, and report all safety hazards and concerns.
- Report any hazardous action, conduct, or event immediately to the Chief Pilot and Director of Safety.
- Delegate certain duties but maintain ultimate responsibility for all assigned responsibilities.
- Perform other duties as needed.
- Represent Jet Aviation as one company internally and externally with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and the General Dynamics network.
