About the Role
This is an opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated Flight Test Pilot 3 to join a dynamic team in Olathe, Kansas. The selected candidate will play a critical role in the development and certification of cutting-edge aviation technology. As a technical leader, the Flight Test Pilot 3 will be responsible for all aspects of flight test activities, from conception and planning to execution and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Take command as Pilot in Command for experimental aircraft, conducting complex flight tests involving modifications to certified designs.
- Lead flight test projects of moderate complexity, demonstrating strong project management skills.
- Develop comprehensive ground and flight test plans for intricate programs, including those involving novel test procedures.
- Serve as a passionate advocate for the end user, defining operational characteristics for systems under development and ensuring their practical functionality.
- Collaborate effectively with engineering teams, maintaining a deep understanding of complex test aircraft configurations.
- Analyze flight test data to drive system development, verify compliance with regulatory requirements, and generate certification documentation.
- Possess advanced troubleshooting skills to address technical issues with test aircraft and installations, providing valuable support to aircraft maintenance.
- Demonstrate proactive problem-solving during flight tests, identifying, tracking, and resolving issues effectively.
- Leverage expertise in aircraft certification processes and regulations to author comprehensive certification plans and contribute to flight manual documentation.
- Collaborate with safety analysis teams, effectively communicating potential hazards and failure effects related to flight operations.
- Work closely with certification authorities to resolve any certification-related issues, ensuring a smooth and timely certification process.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the flight test organization by revising existing procedures, developing new ones, and promoting a strong safety culture.
- Mentor and guide less experienced flight test pilots (Flight Test Pilot 2), fostering their professional development.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Aerospace Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the field of flight test.
- Excellent academic record with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Commercial Pilot Certificate.
- Second Class FAA Medical Certificate.
- Minimum of 1,500 hours of total flight time.
- Minimum of 200 hours of dedicated flight test time.
- Proven experience in flight test operations.
- Proficiency in advanced engineering and flight test tools, including troubleshooting complex avionics systems.
- Strong understanding of aircraft certification processes and applicable regulations.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Desired Qualifications:
- Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
- Experience in systems engineering or software development.
- Flight Test Pilot DER or ODA Unit Member Qualification.
- Helicopter pilot qualifications.
