Seasonal Shadow Pilot - Forest Protection Limited
Forest Protection Limited (FPL) is seeking experienced and qualified pilots to join its team in Fredericton, New Brunswick, for the 2025 wildfire season. The seasonal position will run from April 7, 2025, to September 15, 2025. Reporting directly to the Chief Pilot, successful candidates will play a vital role in supporting wildfire suppression efforts across New Brunswick.
Responsibilities:
- Aircraft Operations: Safely operate C208 or PA60 aircraft, transporting loading crews and equipment to reload bases throughout New Brunswick.
- Loading Duties: Assist with various loading operations as needed.
- Adherence to Standards: Strictly follow FPL's Company Operations Manual and Standard Operating Procedures, ensuring all key job duties are executed diligently.
- Collaboration: Work closely with officers from the Department of Natural Resources and base managers on fire suppression and aerial application projects.
- Documentation: Complete required preflight and postflight paperwork promptly, reporting any maintenance needs without delay.
- Aircraft Maintenance: Maintain the cleanliness and general upkeep of assigned aircraft.
Qualifications:
- Pilot Certification: Possess a valid Commercial Pilot License (Fixed Wing).
- Flight Experience: Demonstrate at least 1000 hours of total flight time with 100 hours of multi-engine PIC.
- Instrument Rating: Hold a valid Instrument Flight Rating (IFR).
- Aircraft Familiarity: Experience operating Piper Aerostar, Cessna Caravan, or aircraft equipped with Garmin G1000NXI is considered an asset.
- Engine Expertise: Experience with PT6-equipped aircraft is beneficial.
Operational Requirements:
- Canadian Work Authorization: Be legally authorized to work in Canada within the Federal Aviation sector.
- Pilot License: Hold a valid Canadian Commercial Pilot License (Fixed Wing) or a Transport Canada-recognized international equivalent.
- Medical Certification: Possess a valid Canadian Category 1 medical certificate.
- Recent Flying Experience: Have flown within the last 12 months.
- Training Completion: Successfully complete FPL's ground and flight training program, including a pilot competency check.
- Communication Skills: Demonstrate effective communication skills in English.
- Background Check: Be able to obtain a clean Criminal Background Check.
- Driver License: Hold a valid Canadian driver license or a federally recognized international license.
- Driving Record: Be able to obtain a clean Driver Abstract.
- Passport Validity: Possess a passport valid for at least 30 days after the end of employment.
- Technology Proficiency: Own a modern smartphone with an up-to-date operating system capable of running secure company communication apps and a laptop or device suitable for accessing email and reading small print (for exams).
- Footwear: Have CSA-approved footwear.
