First Officer

FlySafair, operating from bases in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, and Lanseria, seeks a qualified First Officer to join its Flight Deck Crew. This is a permanent, aviation industry position reporting to the Fleet Captain and offering a market-related salary. Job Reference Number: FlightDeck_FirstOfficers1.

The First Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety of flight and upholding the company's commitment to excellent customer service. Key responsibilities include monitoring the flight path and aircraft systems, performing pre-, in-, and post-flight checks and procedures, and maintaining open communication with internal departments, external service providers, and passengers. The First Officer navigates and operates the flight in compliance with regulations and company policies. In the event of Captain incapacitation, the First Officer assumes command.

The First Officer maintains current knowledge of SACAA and international aviation laws, adhering to the company's Operations Manual. They assist the Captain with operational and administrative duties, upholding a high standard of crew discipline, behavior, and personal appearance. The role involves executing duties in accordance with FlySafair Standard Operating Procedures, confirming safe aircraft navigation, offering advice and assistance to the Captain, and ensuring compliance with the company's operations manual at all times.

Pre-flight duties encompass thorough awareness of the planned flight route, briefing sheets, and weather conditions. In-flight, the First Officer performs or monitors checklists, monitors all flight aspects, crosschecks instrument indications, and conducts radio communications. Post-flight responsibilities include completing procedures and submitting relevant documentation.

Job Requirements:

• Grade 12 or equivalent.
• SACAA Commercial License (Essential).
• SACAA ATPL (Preferred).
• Class 1 SACAA Medical Certificate (Essential).
• Type rating on Boeing aircraft (Advantageous).
• Experience on commercial jets over 20 tons (Advantageous).
• Minimum of 1500 flight hours, including 500 hours multi-turbine time for non-type-rated or Boeing type-rated candidates (Essential).
• Multi-crew experience (Essential).
• No existing medical conditions.
• Willingness to sign applicable training bonds.
• No criminal record; willingness to undergo drug and alcohol testing.
• Own transport and RSA Driver’s License.
• SA Citizen with proof of identity.
• Valid RSA Passport.
• Willingness to work irregular hours on a roster.
• Detailed knowledge and understanding of National Aviation regulations such as SACAA, ICAO.
• Knowledge of Doc 8186 (Essential).
• Knowledge of Commercial and Airline Transport Pilots licensing content.
