Job Summary:
The First Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and efficiency of flight operations while upholding the highest standards of professionalism and customer service. This individual will work collaboratively with the Captain to operate and navigate the aircraft, monitor flight systems, and adhere to all relevant regulations and company procedures. The First Officer must maintain comprehensive knowledge of aircraft systems, flight operations, and relevant aviation legislation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the safety of flight in a timely manner.
- Monitor the flight path and aircraft systems.
- Perform thorough pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight checks and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with internal departments, external service providers, and passengers.
- Navigate and operate the aircraft in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, company policies, and procedures.
- Maintain a strong focus on excellent customer service.
- Submit accurate and complete legal administrative documentation.
- Assume command in the event of Captain incapacitation.
- Stay updated with all applicable SACAA and international aviation laws.
- Maintain familiarity with the company's Operations Manual.
- Assist the Captain with operational and administrative duties.
- Uphold a high standard of crew discipline, behavior, and personal appearance.
- Confirm the safe navigation of the aircraft, maintaining a continuous and independent check on geographical position and terrain clearance.
- Offer advice and assistance to the Captain to ensure the safe and efficient conduct of each flight.
- Support the Captain in developing and maintaining a high level of professional expertise and morale within the crew.
- Be fully aware of the planned flight route, briefings, and weather conditions.
- Collaborate with the Captain to make informed decisions about fuel, alternates, and restrictions.
- Execute and monitor all normal, abnormal, and emergency checklists.
- Monitor all aspects of the flight, checking procedures, techniques, and instrument indications.
- Conduct radio communications as required.
- Ensure all post-flight procedures are completed.
- Submit all required documentation and reports.
Job Requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- SACAA Commercial Pilot License (Essential).
- SACAA ATPL (Preferred).
- Class 1 SACAA Medical Certificate (Essential).
- Boeing type rating (Advantageous).
- Experience on commercial jets over 20 tons (Advantageous).
- Minimum of 1500 hours total flight time, including 500 hours multi-turbine time (Essential). Non-type rated or Boeing type rated pilots must meet this requirement.
- Multi-crew experience (Essential).
- No existing medical conditions that could affect ability to fly.
- Willing to sign applicable training bonds.
- No criminal record and willing to undergo a drug and alcohol test.
- Own transport and valid RSA Driver's License.
- South African citizenship with proof of identity.
- Valid RSA Passport.
- Willing to work irregular hours on a roster.
- Detailed knowledge of national aviation regulations, including SACAA and ICAO.
- Knowledge of Doc 8186 (Essential).
- Knowledge of Commercial and Airline Transport Pilot licensing content.
