Operations Training Specialist – Nuclear Energy

Position Overview

The Operations Training Specialist demonstrates mastery of skills and extensive subject matter knowledge in the analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation, and modification of plant-specific nuclear licensed Operations training programs. This role drives performance improvement for the clean energy center (CEC) and its personnel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and conduct performance-based Reactor Operator (RO) and Non-Licensed Operator (NLO) training programs following the systematic approach to training (SAT) model.
  • Ensure training curricula incorporate current information from INPO Significant Operating Experience Reports, NERs, NRC bulletins, design changes, and new regulatory requirements.
  • Develop trainee examinations and conduct evaluations across classroom, laboratory, OJT, and simulator environments.
  • Provide trainee counseling and develop individualized training programs based on performance results.
  • Support business initiatives, project management, refuel outages, emergency preparedness, and special projects.
  • Participate in NRC, INPO, and management audits, including the preparation of formal responses.
  • Supervise the collection and maintenance of auditable training records and reports.
  • Maintain advanced knowledge of plant operations and instructional techniques.
  • Fulfill emergency response duties and departmental coverage as required.
  • Mandatory Requirement: Must achieve Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) certification within 18 months of assuming the position.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet or exceed the ANSI/ANS-3.1-2014 (4.4.3) Standard. Qualifying backgrounds include:

  • Previous Equipment Operator with 6 years of related industrial, military, or commercial power plant experience.
  • Associate’s degree in a technical discipline/education/training with 4 years of nuclear technical background or 6 years of related power plant experience.
  • Current/previous licensed Reactor Operator or SRO certification with 4 years of related power plant experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related science/education with 3 years of nuclear technical background or 4 years of related power plant experience.
  • Current or previous SRO license.
  • Must maintain unescorted access requirements and pass a favorable medical examination.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven experience in commercial nuclear training.
  • In-depth knowledge of and experience with the systematic approach to training (SAT).
