Captain, ATR42 – Canadian North
Canadian North, a 100% Inuit-owned airline connecting communities across Canada's Arctic and beyond, seeks a highly skilled and experienced Captain to join its team. This full-time position, based in Ottawa, ON, offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a vital operation while experiencing the diverse landscapes and challenges of northern aviation. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of ATR42 aircraft within a robust scheduled passenger and cargo network, complemented by a dynamic charter program.
Responsibilities:
The Captain will serve as the leader of the flight crew, holding ultimate command authority and responsibility for the safety of all passengers, crew, and aircraft. Key duties include:
- Maintaining unwavering adherence to Canadian North Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Ensuring the safety of all on board through diligent adherence to company safety policies and proactive utilization of safety reporting programs.
- Identifying and communicating hazards and risks to enhance continuous improvement through process review.
- Maintaining proper qualifications, including successful completion of a Company Upgrade PPC conducted by the Minister or their delegate (ACP).
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:
- High school diploma and graduation from an approved aviation training program.
- Minimum 2,500 hours total flight time.
- Minimum 1,000 hours multi-engine Pilot in Command experience.
- Valid Transport Canada Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL).
- Valid Transport Canada Group 1 Instrument Rating.
- Valid Transport Canada Category 1 Medical Certificate.
- Prior CAR 705 experience (preferred).
- Prior experience operating ATR42/72 aircraft (or similar) (preferred).
- Legal authorization to work in Canada.
- Current valid passport and Canadian Permanent Resident Card (if not a Canadian passport holder).
- All necessary visas and travel documents for unrestricted travel.
- Ability to communicate in Inuktut (a definite asset).
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Airport Restricted Area Identity Card.
Compensation and Benefits:
For Ottawa-based positions (rotational), pilots residing over 150 km from the base will receive reimbursement of up to $500 per direction, capped at $2000 per month, to offset travel expenses. A comprehensive compensation and benefits package will be provided.
