Role and Responsibilities

The Instructor Pilot is responsible for the professional and comprehensive delivery of flight training, encompassing both flight simulator sessions and ground school instruction. This instruction must strictly adhere to the requirements of the appropriate regulatory agencies, CAE-approved curriculum standards, and specific customer requirements. The Instructor Pilot will function as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), leading clients through their training curriculum and certifying their preparedness.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing advanced simulator, flight, or classroom instruction on assigned aircraft types for the purpose of issuing licenses, type ratings, internal training, certificates, and professional pilot qualifications.
  • Conducting thorough and professional pre-flight and post-flight simulator briefings in accordance with established CAE standards.
  • Executing required administrative duties, including the completion of detailed training records, recommending remedial training when necessary, and maintaining personal instructional qualifications and activity logs.
  • Serving as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the creation of comprehensive curricula and courseware when required by business needs.

Upon satisfactory performance and based on business needs, designated Instructors are expected to qualify as a Training Center Evaluator (TCE) and customer contract check airman after a minimum of 1.5 years in the role.

Qualifications and Professional Profile

Required Experience and Background

  • Must possess authorization to live and work permanently in the United States.
  • High School diploma or state-issued equivalent is required.
  • A professional pilot’s license must be held or have been previously held.
  • A minimum of two (2) to five (5) years of job-relevant professional experience is required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite and internet-based programs.
  • Must be capable of participating in CAE’s Department of Transportation (DOT) mandated Anti-Drug and Alcohol testing program.
  • Proven demonstration of a strong customer service orientation in professional work assignments.

Highly Desired Qualifications (Preferred)

  • An Associate degree or higher college degree is preferred.
  • Previous experience in teaching or training other professionals is advantageous.
  • Possession of an existing instructor qualification or a current type rating is preferred.
  • Experience operating under FAR Part 135 regulations is highly valued.
  • Possession of an unrestricted Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate and a minimum of one unrestricted Pilot-in-Command (PIC) type rating is preferred.
  • A minimum of 3,000 hours of total flight time is preferred.

Logistical Considerations and Physical Demands

CAE provides a comprehensive training program to facilitate the successful transition of the pilot's operational knowledge into a world-class instructional and Subject Matter Expert role.

  • Training for this specialized role will involve international travel and extended stays.
  • Relocation assistance will be provided to the selected candidate should qualified local candidates not be identified.
  • The role requires physical dexterity for tasks involving hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.
  • The ability to sit in a confined space for 4–6 hours at a time with limited breaks is required.
  • The ability to stand for extended periods (up to 10 hours) with limited breaks is required.
  • The ability to sit, stoop, climb, twist, and turn is necessary for simulator operations.
