Aviation Instructor Pilot

Amentum is currently seeking applications for the position of Aviation Instructor Pilot at the U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence, Fort Novosel, Alabama. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a world-renowned rotary-wing flight training program, shaping the skills of future Army helicopter pilots.

As an Instructor Pilot, the individual will provide essential aviation instruction to undergraduate student pilots. Instruction encompasses aviation theory, advanced simulator training, and comprehensive actual flight training in the UH-72 Lakota aircraft. The program is designed to equip students with the skills necessary for complex and challenging flight missions, often conducted under demanding conditions.

Located at the world's largest rotary-wing flight school, the program, managed through a partnership between the U.S. Army and Amentum, trains approximately 1,000 pilots annually. The program boasts an exceptional safety record, founded on rigorous standards and meticulous instruction across more than 2.3 million flight instruction hours. Training operates across a vast area and may involve shifts covering early mornings to late nights. Instructors play a key role not only in developing flying proficiency but also in cultivating leadership skills vital for military aviation.

Important Considerations:

  • Applicants selected for employment are subject to U.S. Government approval.
  • Employment is subject to the terms of a 12-month Employee Training Agreement.
  • Successful candidates must pass and maintain a U.S. Government background security check.
  • Selected applicants are required to complete program-specific training and pass a government acceptance checkride.
  • Prior military aviation experience or UH-72 qualification is not a prerequisite for this position.

Requirements:

  • Must possess an ICAO equivalent or FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate AND an ICAO equivalent or FAA Flight Instructor Certificate. Both certificates must include Rotorcraft Category, Helicopter Class, and Instrument Helicopter Ratings. OR, must be a graduate of any U.S. Department of Defense rotary-wing instructor pilot course for rotary-wing aircraft.
  • Total Flight Time: A minimum of 1500 hours. Flight time credited can include Pilot-in-Command or Second-in-Command time (per FAR 61.51), or Pilot in Command (PC) or Pilot (PI) time (per AR 95-1) in aircraft of any weight or category.
  • Must certify having a combined total of at least 100 hours of hooded instrument time, flight simulator instrument time, or actual weather pilot time.
  • Must have experience instructing students in instrument flight training.
  • Night Flying Time: A minimum of 75 hours.
  • Instructor Time: A minimum of 500 hours.
  • Must possess a current FAA Second Class Medical Certificate prior to commencing Method of Instruction (MOI) training.
  • Must not exceed 250 pounds in flight duty uniform.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) background investigation.
