Job Purpose
The Airline Captain is responsible for commanding assigned flights in strict accordance with the Air Arabia Operational Manual and all relevant GCAA/CAA regulations. This role requires ensuring the highest standards of safety, security, and operational efficiency throughout every flight. The Captain will provide strong leadership and guidance to flight and cabin crews, effectively manage emergencies and ad-hoc situations, and maintain absolute control to ensure successful flight execution and a positive representation of Air Arabia.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be entrusted with the following critical responsibilities, prioritizing safety, efficiency, and passenger comfort:
- Commands and operates Air Arabia aircraft across various destinations according to approved schedules and flight plans, assuming ultimate responsibility for the aircraft during assigned flights.
- Ensures all flights are conducted in full compliance with the detailed provisions of the Air Arabia Operations Manual and all applicable aviation regulations.
- Implements, monitors, and maintains necessary procedures to guarantee safe and smooth aircraft operations at all times.
- Ensures personal readiness, proper grooming, fitness, and legal qualification, as well as those of the entire Flight Crew, for all assigned flights. Conducts comprehensive pre-flight briefings to ensure crew awareness of flight details and adopted procedures.
- Fosters effective communication and collaboration with First Officers, Second Officers, and the Dispatch Team prior to each flight, ensuring all flight and cabin crew members are thoroughly prepared and informed on critical aspects such as aircraft technical status, route preferences, weather, fuel, weight, and role distribution.
- Optimizes flight efficiency and fuel management during flight operations, always within the stringent safety constraints detailed in the Air Arabia Operations Manual.
- Oversees and verifies all required safety, security, fuel, and transit checks performed by flight and cabin crew members before, during, and after each flight, taking decisive action and directing crew responses to safety or security irregularities, including necessary escalations.
- Collaborates closely with Maintenance Engineers to confirm aircraft technical status and airworthiness. Seeks support from the MCC (Maintenance Control Centre) and MROs (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) to address potential concerns, identify defects, or resolve technical issues, implementing immediate rectification or corrective measures where applicable.
- Ensures meticulous completion and accuracy of all required flight documentation and technical logs, including the technical log book, journey book, and boarding sheets, in adherence to Air Arabia and GCAA/CAA regulations and adopted procedures.
- Guarantees that the Air Arabia Operations Manual is properly distributed, accounted for, maintained, kept up-to-date, understood, and fully complied with by all Flight Crew members.
- Continuously monitors and stays informed of the legal requirements and updates from various regulatory bodies, including Civil Aviation Authorities (GCAA/CAA), Airbus Company, and other relevant entities pertaining to flights and Flight Crew.
- Undertakes additional ground-based tasks, such as Safety Officer or Security Officer duties, as directed by the Head of Flight Operations and in accordance with the provisions of Part A of the Air Arabia Operations Manual.
Qualifications (Academic, Training, Languages)
- Possession of an appropriate Commercial Pilot License (CPL) is mandatory; an Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) is highly preferred.
- Successful completion of technical/psychometric assessments for pilots, compliant with Air Arabia/GCAA/CAA standards.
- Successful completion of the required medical fitness check-up for pilots, compliant with Air Arabia/GCAA/CAA standards.
- Essential training in safety and emergency response; a formal qualification is an advantage.
- Basic Airport, security procedures, and regulations training is an advantage.
- Crew Resources Management Training is considered an advantage.
- Knowledge of IATA principles & standards relating to security is an advantage.
- Proficient in Aircraft systems.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Internet, and Web Search.
- Very good written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability in technical report writing and presentations.
Work Experience
- Holds a valid Instrument Rating (IR).
- Maintains a valid Medical Certificate.
- Prior experience flying commercial airlines is preferred.
- Experience with a low-cost carrier is highly desirable.
- Demonstrates comprehensive industry knowledge of aircraft systems and operating procedures.
- Possesses the requisite knowledge and exposure to assume delegated security or safety-related roles as required by Air Arabia and GCAA/CAA regulations.
- Familiarity with Quality Assurance (QA), Safety, Security, and Audit procedures and practices pertinent to Flight Operations.
- Proven ability to implement and adhere to aviation policies, procedures, and manuals as per approved standards and regulations.
