Aviation Job Description: Airline Pilot
An airline pilot is responsible for conducting assigned flights in accordance with the Airline Operational Manual and civil aviation regulations. The pilot ensures safety, security, and efficiency on all flights, while supporting and guiding the flight and cabin crew. The pilot effectively handles emergencies and ad-hoc situations, maintaining control to ensure successful performance and a positive corporate image.
Key Responsibilities:
- Pilots assigned aircraft from one destination to another following schedules and approved flight plans, acting as the ultimate authority and being responsible for the aircraft during flights, prioritizing safety, efficiency, and passenger comfort.
- Ensures flights are conducted according to the Airline’s Operations Manual and regulations, implementing and maintaining procedures for the safe and smooth operation of the aircraft.
- Ensures timely attendance, proper grooming, fitness, and legality of self and Flight Crew. Conducts pre-flight briefings to ensure crew members are informed of flight details and that briefings are properly conducted before each action.
- Liaises with co-pilots and the Dispatch Team before each flight, ensuring flight/cabin crew members are well-prepared with essential information including aircraft technical status, route preferences, weather, fuel, weight, and role assignments.
- Ensures the aircraft is flown to maximize fuel efficiency, within the safety constraints detailed in the Airline’s Operations Manual.
- Ensures required safety, security, fuel, and transit checks are carried out for each flight by the assigned Flight/Cabin crew members before, during, and after each flight. Takes action and directs the crew in case of safety or security irregularities, deciding on escalations when needed.
- Cooperates with Maintenance Engineers to confirm the aircraft’s technical status and suitability for flight, seeking support from MCC and MROs to address concerns, identify defects, or technical issues, and implements rectification or corrective measures as applicable.
- Ensures all necessary documents and technical logs are loaded with accurate data according to Airline and civil aviation authority regulations, including the technical logbook, journey book, and boarding sheets.
- Ensures the Airline Operations Manual is distributed, accounted for, maintained, up-to-date, understood, and complied with by Flight Crew.
- Remains up-to-date with the legal requirements of regulatory bodies, including civil aviation authorities and Airbus, relating to flights and Flight Crew.
- Undertakes additional ground-based tasks, such as Safety Officer or Security Officer duties, as directed by the line manager and in accordance with the Airline’s Operations Manual.
Qualifications:
- Must possess an appropriate ATPL License.
- Must pass the technical/psychometric assessment for Pilots as per the Airline and respective civil aviation authority standards.
- Must pass the Medical Fitness check-up carried for the Pilots as per the Airline and respective civil aviation authority standards.
- Essential training in safety and emergency response; formal qualification is an advantage.
- Basic Airport, security procedures, and regulations training is an advantage.
- Crew Resources Management Training is an advantage.
- IATA principles & standards relating to security are an advantage.
- Proficient in Aircraft systems and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing and presentations.
- Very good English language proficiency; proficiency in local languages in the country of employment is an advantage.
Work Experience:
- Minimum of 4000 hours of flying experience required, Airbus 320 experience is preferred.
- Experience with a low-cost airline is highly desirable.
- Acceptable industry knowledge in aircraft systems and operating procedures.
- Possesses the knowledge and exposure to handle delegated roles, such as security or safety-related roles, as required by the Airline and respective civil aviation authority regulations.
- Exposure to QA/Safety/Security/Audit procedures and practices related to and affecting Flight Operations.
- Capable of implementing policies, procedures, and manuals per approved standards and regulations.
- Capable of performing in a changing environment with heavy workloads and ad-hoc scenarios.
- Composed, self-confident, and focused, able to handle emergencies and threats effectively.
- Proven skills in analyzing data, identifying pitfalls, and recommending cost-effective solutions.
- Cost-oriented with effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- High accuracy and attention to results and details.
