Position Summary
The Inflight Crewmember Trainee, upon certification, functions as a primary ambassador of the distinguished JetBlue Experience, delivering unparalleled care and service to Customers while airborne. This critical role holds dual accountability for both cabin safety and service excellence, ensuring that the comfort, security, and satisfaction of every Customer remain the paramount priority throughout the journey. Inflight Crewmembers are expected to function effectively within a high-tempo, multi-tasking operational environment, often during non-traditional and extended duty periods. During times of irregular operations, the Crewmember is essential in maintaining a positive Customer experience, offering professionalism, reassurance, empathy, and exceptional service under pressure. As highly visible representatives of JetBlue, Crewmembers must consistently embody the core values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Passion, and Fun, serving as effective communicators who excel in an ever-changing operational landscape.
Essential Responsibilities
The Inflight Crewmember is responsible for a diverse set of duties critical to both operational integrity and customer experience:
Aviation Safety and Security
- Responds safely, efficiently, and effectively to a broad spectrum of in-flight emergencies, adhering strictly to company manuals and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations.
- Responsible for the safety and security of all Customers, Crewmembers, and aircraft equipment.
- Maintains engagement with the Company through proactive utilization of communication channels (e-mail, paper mail, intranet) to enhance safety and service-related competencies.
- Utilizes company-issued electronic devices, including tablets, for processing onboard sales, accessing Customer information, and performing various operational functions.
Customer Service and Brand Ambassadorship
- Provides outstanding and consistent customer service, serving as a proactive ambassador of the JetBlue brand.
- Serves as the primary respondent to Customer issues onboard, proactively finding creative and effective resolutions to ensure maximum Customer satisfaction.
- Offers assistance to Customers requiring aid, including lifting carry-on bags into overhead bins, and providing support to disabled Customers and/or unaccompanied minors.
- Actively promotes and implements the various components of the Inflight product, including beverage and snack service.
- Promotes and up-sells buy-onboard products to successfully meet company ancillary revenue goals.
Minimum Experience and Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following mandatory requirements to be considered for this vital role:
- Possession of a High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Diploma is required.
- Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
- A minimum of two (2) years of verifiable customer service experience in a face-to-face environment is mandatory, including consistent experience in proactively resolving customer issues.
- Must successfully complete an assessment evaluating core job qualifications, including Customer Service orientation, Dependability, and Safety Orientation, utilizing AI- or statistically based scoring methodologies.
- Must demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- For the Bilingual role only: Must successfully complete a Spanish language fluency assessment.
- Proven ability to maintain composure and function calmly in stressful or emergency situations.
- Vision corrected to 20/20.
- The successful candidate must complete the rigorous JetBlue Airways Inflight Training Program, including Initial Training and Annual Continuous Education Programs.
- Must possess the ability to walk comfortably down the aircraft aisle (facing forward and backward), fit quickly through the over wing exit, and secure oneself properly in the assigned Flight Attendant jumpseat.
- Able to reach a height of six feet three inches (6’3”) without footwear.
- Must be able to be scheduled away from the assigned base for up to five (5) nights and six (6) consecutive days; irregular operations may necessitate extended work days or duty periods.
- Ability to push and pull moveable galley carts weighing in excess of 250 pounds.
- Possesses knowledge of basic computer and electronic tablet devices.
- Able to read and comprehend complex guidance detailed in required company manuals.
- Must adhere strictly to JetBlue Inflight Crewmember Uniform Appearance Standards.
- Must be capable of working varying schedules, including reserve duty, weekends, evenings, holidays, and last-minute drafting.
- Upon notification, the candidate must be able to report to their assigned base location within 2 hours (BOS, FLL, MCO, SJU) OR 2 hours and 45 minutes (EWR, JFK, LAX).
- Must currently possess a valid U.S. passport or foreign passport with applicable visas allowing free entry and exit, without restrictions, to all JetBlue destinations. All passports must maintain a minimum of 12 months’ validity remaining at the time of application.
- Travel documents must remain valid throughout all phases of training and employment.
- Must successfully pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug screening.
- Authorization to work in the US is required. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Preferred Experience and Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree is highly desirable.
- Two (2) years of customer-facing sales experience.
- Demonstrated ability to function effectively with limited supervisory oversight.
- Possession of a strong passion for quality customer service delivery.
- Prior emergency management experience, such as medical training, law enforcement, or military background.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Crewmember Expectations
The Crewmember is expected to maintain regular attendance and punctuality, and must be willing to work a non-traditional schedule, including weekends, holidays (e.g., July 4th, Thanksgiving, Christmas), and overnight hours. Candidates must maintain a professional appearance at all times. The use of ChatGPT or any other automated tool during the interview process will result in disqualification from consideration for this position.
Physical Effort and Working Hours
The role requires moderate physical activity, including handling objects up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently, and the ability to push and pull heavy objects (galley equipment) in excess of 250 pounds. Work hours are non-traditional and shifts cover the flight schedule which operates twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week. The Crewmember must be able to work any awarded schedule, including mandatory extended work days during irregular operations, and must be able to stand for extended periods.
Compensation
The base pay range for this position is between $26.03 and $69.90 per hour. Base pay is one component of JetBlue’s comprehensive total compensation package, which may also include access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan with company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, and free space available travel on JetBlue, among other benefits.
