UAS Pilot and Program Instructor (or Senior Instructor) Job

Position Summary
In partnership with UAS Program Manager, develop new routine UAS use cases and assist with obtaining sustainable integration that aligns with the corporate program strategy. Contribute to the overall development and expansion of the corporate UAS program. Maintain and track success metrics; coordinate and communicate across multiple business units. This position will require UAV mission execution and airspace evaluations. Develop & provide professional UAS training across the Company/Enterprise in coordination with other apprenticeship programs within the regions as needed. Develop evaluation methods and collect and analyze feedback for program improvements.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development of UAS general operations manual, operational procedures and practices for Xcel Energy employees. Provide oversight and work direction for employees to maintain UAS commercial license support, continuous improvement of field staff to meet/exceed organizational goals.
  • Design and maintain effective methods and perform evaluations of overall effectiveness, cost benefit and ultimate bottom line impact of the program expansion and any training/consulting product or service provided. Perform technical and process improvement consulting.
  • Develop and implement systematic approach to provide enterprise UAS training and sustainment requirements to business areas across operations and adhere to records management requirements. Partner with internal training organizations and other stakeholders as needed. Design and develop skills enhancement strategies and practices to support continuous improvement of personnel necessary to meet/exceed business and organizational goals and to be successful in meeting industry and competitive challenges.
  • Perform UAS Operations in compliance with all Local, State and Federal Rules and Regulations. Consult with customer to identify business needs and objectives. Provide customer resources and direction for all training services, mission execution, products and programs.
  • Fully utilize business processes (scorecard, marketing strategies, training, etc.) and project management to drive program expansion and sustainment.
  • Manage special projects that facilitate expansion, adoption, and sustainment of the corporate UAS program.

UAS Pilot and Program Instructor Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Engineering, Education, or technical field related to the subject(s) in which the individual will provide instruction is preferred, or a combination of education and 3 years of experience providing equivalent knowledge (specialized trade school, instructor certification, military training, commercial UAS operations, GIS, utility experience is required.
  • Valid United States Passport and FAA UAS Remote Pilot in Command license required.
  • GIS experience and private pilot license or other pilot experience preferred.
  • Three years of training experience or equivalent technical work experience related to subject area of instruction.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills are required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of adult learning principles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to effectively use Microsoft Office applications.
  • Minimum of 25% travel required.
  • Will be required to work rotating shifts/weekends and/or be on call periodically.

Sr. UAS Pilot and Program Instructor Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Technical degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Engineering, Education, or related technical field.
  • Five years of related experience with three years of UAS commercial operations, UAS program development and/or project management experience.
  • Valid United States Passport and current FAA UAS Remote Pilot in Command license required.
  • Minimum of 25% travel required.
  • Operational knowledge of work and asset management and analytical/reporting applications.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills are required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to effectively use Microsoft Office applications.
  • Will be required to work rotating shifts/weekends and/or be on call periodically.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: UAS Pilot and Program Instructor: $66,000 to $94,000; Sr. level: $77,000 to $109,666 per year
