Aircraft Captain, Chief Pilot
Xcel Energy seeks a highly experienced and accomplished Chief Pilot to lead and oversee all aspects of its flight operations. This pivotal leadership role demands a proven track record in corporate aviation, coupled with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of all company aircraft, while fostering a culture of safety and professional excellence within the flight crew.
Position Summary:
The Chief Pilot provides day-to-day leadership and supervision to all flight crewmembers, overseeing all aspects of flight operations. Key responsibilities include coordinating with the Flight Operations Coordinator on trip planning, collaborating with the Maintenance Manager to ensure optimal aircraft condition and adherence to all safety and regulatory standards (FAA regulations and company policies), and supporting the Director of Aviation Services in projects, budgeting, and reporting. The Chief Pilot will also serve as the Flight Operations Lead during all emergency response activities.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily flight operations, ensuring strict adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.
- Coordinate flight scheduling and trip construction with the Flight Operations Coordinator.
- Provide daily leadership and supervision to all flight crewmembers.
- Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager to ensure optimal aircraft condition, maintaining and reviewing the Minimum Equipment List (MEL).
- Work in conjunction with the Director of Aviation Services to maintain and update standard operating procedures (SOPs), checklists, and other directives, ensuring all flight crewmembers understand and comply with these procedures.
- Assist the Director of Aviation Services with department projects, budget forecasting, reporting, and act as a fill-in during absences.
- Participate actively in the recruitment and selection of new pilots.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive training program for new pilots, emphasizing safety, efficiency, regulatory compliance, and adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Collaborate closely with the Safety Manager to address flight safety concerns.
- Serve as Flight Operations Lead for the Aviation Emergency Response Plan; investigate and report on incidents/accidents, recommending preventative measures.
- Maintain and revise the Flight Operations Manual, ensuring alignment with industry best practices.
- Support the ongoing development, implementation, and refinement of the department's Safety Management System (SMS).
- Maintain and review Aircraft Letters of Authorization (LOAs).
- Maintain Pilot-in-Command (PIC) currency in at least one company-operated aircraft type.
- Stay abreast of industry developments through seminars, benchmarking, and industry conventions.
- Liaise effectively with Air Traffic Control and ground operations to ensure smooth flight operations and minimize delays.
Minimum Requirements:
- FAA Air Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with appropriate ratings, qualified to serve as Pilot-in-Command for at least one company-operated aircraft.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in corporate aviation, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of corporate air travel and 14 CFR Chapter 1 FAA regulations (including Part 91 operations and related regulations).
- Proven leadership experience with a strong focus on interpersonal skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- College degree preferred.
Compensation and Benefits:
The anticipated starting annual salary for this position ranges from $139,400.00 to $197,467.00.
