Role Overview
The Safety team seeks a dedicated Safety Investigator with excellent technical knowledge and experience. Reporting to the Sr. Manager Group Audit, Investigations & Safety Data, this role is responsible for investigating safety files across all operational groups, including Flight Operations, Airports, Inflight, and Technical Operations, as assigned.
Key Responsibilities:

Conduct accident/incident investigations in accordance with the Company Safety Manual (CSM) and/or the Encore Safety Manual (ESM).

Investigate files related to Flight Safety, Airport Safety, Inflight Safety, and Tech Ops Safety.

Obtain and review investigative evidence, including employee interviews, air traffic control recordings, weather data, and aircraft maintenance history.

Liaise with external governing investigative bodies (Transportation Safety Board/NTSB/EASA) and industry partners such as Transport Canada, Nav Canada, Airport authorities, and WestJet contractors.

Document investigation actions accurately in the Company Reporting System (CRS).

Trend occurrences in the Company Reporting System (CRS) and notify responsible leadership of specific trends.

Recommend, track, and verify the effectiveness of corrective action plans.

Immediately notify certificate holders or delegates of any discovered regulatory non-compliance during an investigation.

Assist with and/or conduct risk assessments.

Liaise with Maintenance Quality Assurance when maintenance compliance issues are detected to ensure appropriate Corrective Action Plans (CAP) are implemented.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Manager, Group Audit, Investigations & Safety Data, and the Program Manager, Safety Investigations, to support the operational safety management system.
Required Experience and Qualifications:

3-6 years of airline experience.

Flight Operations, Technical Operations, Inflight, and/or Airports below-the-wing experience.

Hold (or have held) a pilot license, flight dispatcher certificate, or AME license, or possess commensurate knowledge, skills, and experience.

Aviation/technical diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Strong understanding of safety management principles, including operational risk management processes, investigation practices, safety culture, human and organizational factors analysis, and continuous improvement.

Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels and with external stakeholders.

Strong relationship-building skills and experience coordinating expectations of diverse stakeholders.

Required to respond to urgent matters outside of working hours and participate in on-call rotations.

Travel is expected to support investigative activities; ability to travel to all WestJet destinations is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Experience with the Company Reporting System (CRS).

Formal accident/incident investigator training.
-
Formal root cause analysis training.
-
Strong knowledge of the CARs relating to airline operations, airworthiness, and SMS.
