Simulator Instructor, CL30 – Aviation Crew Training Specialist

Job Summary
The Simulator Instructor will serve as a pivotal mentor and teacher, primarily responsible for the comprehensive evaluation and professional development of company pilots. This critical role holds the distinction of being the first level of safety assurance, embodying the highest company standards of service, operational safety, and competency. The Instructor's primary objective is to provide invaluable practical experience through supervised training, affording critical exposure to Vista America's dynamic operating environment and ensuring that all trainee pilots achieve and maintain the utmost safety and conformity to company operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
The Simulator Instructor will be entrusted with a broad range of duties, including but not limited to:
- Conducting current simulator training strictly in accordance with established Training Plans of Action (POAs) and syllabus requirements.
- Facilitating the correct and consistent application of procedures related to flight operations and service flow.
- Leading by example as a dedicated brand ambassador for Vista, consistently upholding the company's reputation and values.
- Ensuring that all conduct aligns with Vista's brand standards, proactively addressing any behavior that could negatively impact the brand.
- Guiding trainees to safely and efficiently perform normal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across all phases of flight, as per the Fleet-specific Flight Standards Manual (FSM).
- Instructing on managing flight paths both manually and with automation during normal operations.
- Developing trainees' ability to manage workload effectively to maintain proper situational awareness.
- Promoting safe and efficient line operations by demonstrating effective decision-making processes, utilizing methodologies such as DORDAR.
- Training pilots to perform effective monitoring duties and implement appropriate intervention strategies when necessary, ensuring safe aircraft operations throughout all flight phases.
- Cultivating effective communication skills, including conducting interactive Threat and Error Management (TEM)-based briefings and consistently using correct radio telephony (R/T) procedures and phraseology.
- Imparting a competent standard of operational and regional knowledge, including published operating instructions and information sourcing.
- Ensuring consistent performance of the Service Flow and supporting service recovery efforts.
- Demonstrating and fostering commercial awareness through efficient operational decisions.
- Preparing, printing, and distributing training materials, handouts, and documentation for students.
- Delivering comprehensive classroom instruction for pilots on any Part 135 training courses.
- Continuously monitoring and evaluating training programs for efficacy, administering performance and written tests objectively as needed.
- Completing all training records accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintaining continuous familiarity with new concepts, innovations, changes in regulations, procedures, and improvements concerning the safe operation of training aircraft.
- Possessing full knowledge of all applicable company policies, procedures, manuals, handbooks, and protocols.
- Maintaining all Simulator Instructor currency requirements under Part 135, as appropriate for assigned courses.
- Holding at least a 3rd class medical certificate for the purposes of aircraft operation, if required for maintaining Part 135 instructor aircraft currency.
Record Keeping & Reporting
The Simulator Instructor is required to complete accurate and objective record-keeping for all training events, including:
- Timely completion and submission of training documents after each event.
- Providing objective, clear information that accurately reflects actual trainee performance.
- Proficiently utilizing the established competency grading system.
Communication
Effective communication skills are paramount and include:
- Handling trainee conflicts with diplomacy and professionalism.
- Consistently offering positive feedback and constructive criticism to foster growth.
- Maintaining direct and transparent communications, including feedback, with the Director of Training.
- Upholding a professional demeanor by refraining from gossip and avoiding controversial topics.
- Actively participating in monthly Training meetings.
Required Qualifications
Prospective candidates for this position should possess the following qualifications:
- Ability to obtain and maintain an appropriate aviation medical certificate (if required for duties).
- An Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate with at least one Pilot-in-Command (PIC) Type Rating.
- CL30 type rating is highly preferred.
- Prior experience holding CFI, CFII, MEI qualifications, or equivalent credentials such as Check Pilot, Training and Checking Examiner (TCE), Type Rating Instructor (TRI), or Type Rating Examiner (TRE).
- A minimum of six months of experience actively delivering flight training, or
- Accumulation of 150 hours of dual given instruction.
- Successful completion of instructor training provided by Vista America.
- Demonstrated professional behavior and conduct in all interactions.
- Authorization to work legally in the United States.
- Current and unrestricted travel capability.
- A pristine aviation record, free from accidents, incidents, or FAA enforcement actions within the last five years.
