Fire Captain - Kuwait
About the Role
Vectrus is seeking an experienced and dedicated Fire Captain to join our team in Kuwait in support of LOGCAP. This crucial role ensures the safety and security of personnel and facilities by implementing and overseeing all fire protection and emergency response operations. Reporting to the Assistant Fire Chief of Operations, the Fire Captain will lead a team of firefighters in responding to a wide range of emergencies while maintaining the highest standards of safety and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fire Protection and Safety (55%):
- Implement and manage fire protection programs in accordance with the Performance Work Statement (PWS) and industry best practices.
- Conduct thorough fire safety inspections of facilities, documenting and addressing potential hazards to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Lead firefighting operations, including structural and aircraft fires, rescues, medical emergencies, and hazardous material incidents, demonstrating tactical expertise and decisive leadership.
- Maintain a constant state of operational readiness for all emergency equipment, ensuring compliance with NFPA and other relevant standards.
- Maintain a safe and compliant work environment, adhering to all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) and Quality Assurance (QA) protocols, while training and supervising firefighters in their adherence to these standards.
- Team Leadership and Development (25%):
- Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and training to a team of two to six firefighters, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Evaluate performance, provide constructive feedback, and conduct training to enhance individual and team capabilities.
- Champion the achievement of department and LOGCAP metrics, effectively utilizing resources and personnel to achieve organizational goals.
- Foster a collaborative and communicative work environment, ensuring the dissemination of vital information related to safety, performance, and operational requirements.
- Administrative and Operational Support (20%):
- Manage administrative tasks such as scheduling, equipment maintenance, and documentation to ensure smooth department operations.
- Operate computerized digital fire alarm receiving equipment and two-way radio communications systems, ensuring efficient communication within the team and across departments.
- Actively participate in meetings, providing updates and representing the department in the absence of the supervisor.
- Demonstrate a commitment to LOGCAP goals and PWS commitments, consistently seeking ways to improve departmental performance and contribute to mission success.
Qualifications:
- Education and Certifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent is required; an Associate Degree in Fire Science is preferred.
- DoD, Pro-Board, or IFSAC certifications required: Fire Officer II, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, Hazmat Operations, Incident Commander, Driver Operator Pumper, Driver Operator MWS, Driver Operator ARFF, Driver Operator Aerial.
- Airport Firefighter and HazMat Technician certifications are highly preferred.
- EMT certification or higher is a plus.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with an organized Fire or Emergency Service Department.
- Two years of experience at the Company Officer level is highly preferred.
- Skills:
- Proven leadership, management, and decision-making skills, with the ability to lead under pressure and make sound judgments in emergency situations.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with fluency in written and spoken English, and the ability to effectively collaborate with a multinational workforce, including superiors and military personnel.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with a meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
- In-depth understanding of fire department operations, advanced knowledge of leadership and supervisory techniques, and a thorough comprehension of the Incident Command System (ICS).
- Additional Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
- Valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a U.S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator's License and a host nation Driver's License and Heavy Driver's License.
- Must be able to meet the physical demands outlined in NFPA 1582, including lifting and carrying heavy weight, working in confined spaces, and wearing protective gear.
Working Conditions:
This position involves working in a challenging environment with potential exposure to extreme weather conditions, including temperatures exceeding 130 degrees Fahrenheit. Candidates must be comfortable working in demanding situations, potentially involving exposure to hazardous materials, and be prepared to wear appropriate personal protective equipment. Flexibility and a willingness to work irregular hours are essential, as this position requires availability for recall and off-duty personnel management.
