Standardization Instructor Pilot (AH-6I Program)
Position Summary and Overview
The Standardization Instructor Pilot (SP) is entrusted with executing all duties related to pilot training and standardization within the AH-6I program series aircraft and associated simulation devices. This critical role ensures the highest levels of proficiency and operational readiness among employee and customer pilots, adhering rigorously to US Army Aviation Aircrew Training Manual (ATM) requirements.
The incumbent conducts comprehensive initial and concurrent training, administers detailed evaluations, and maintains standardization across all training operations. Responsibilities include conducting AH-6I ground school instruction in classroom environments, delivering basic instrument instruction utilizing both the aircraft and flight training devices, and executing essential flight training encompassing contact, basic instrument, and basic combat skills in strict compliance with government-approved ATM and Program of Instruction (POI) standards. Instruction may be delivered individually or in groups, spanning academic, aircraft, or simulator settings. Experience in diverse mission operations—such as Attack, Observation, Utility, and Multi-Mission—is highly preferred, along with prior completion of an authorized Aviation Proponent School Instructor Pilot (IP) course.
Furthermore, the Standardization Instructor Pilot is responsible for meticulously maintaining Individual Aircrew Training Folders (IATF) and ensuring all required training, currency, and readiness entries are accurately documented.
Key Responsibilities
- Trains and evaluates AH-6i program pilots in full adherence to the US Army Aviation Aircrew Training Manual (ATM) and specific unit Aircrew Training Program (ATP) guidelines.
- Develops, forecasts, schedules, monitors, and provides comprehensive reporting on recurring training-related resource requirements across all assigned training programs.
- Develops and implements Aviation Aircrew Training Programs (ATP) that align precisely with customer guidance and operational requirements.
- Verifies and confirms the current status and completeness of all mandated flight training publications and manuals.
- Conducts and evaluates individual readiness level progression tasks, including advanced instrument flight tasks performed during day, night, Night Vision Goggle (NVG), and Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) conditions.
- Prepares crewmembers through realistic mission training maneuvers tailored to local environmental conditions, including specialized dust landings and weather-specific desert training scenarios.
- Provides advanced aircrew proficiency training in Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC) within and outside controlled airspace, adhering to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) or international Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) flight rules as applicable.
- Represents the program in required meetings with customers and stakeholders.
- Formulates recommendations regarding Aviation Instructor Pilot appointments for submission to customer leadership.
- Actively participates as a member of the Aviation Safety Council, attending regularly scheduled meetings to contribute to safety standards and policy development.
- Attends and provides crucial training and mission planning input during weekly Production Control and Operations meetings.
- Serves as the primary interface, providing required daily status reports to staff concerning training progression, mission assignments, mission planning details, and crew status updates.
- Performs additional duties or specialized tasks as directed by leadership.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. The applicant must have been previously qualified as a Pilot in Command (PIC).
- Certifications/Ratings:
- Must be a graduate of an authorized Aviation Proponent School Instructor Pilot (IP) course for the OH-58D or AH-64D, or have successfully completed an IP equivalency evaluation administered by a Standardization Instructor Pilot (SP) selected by the Directorate of Evaluations and Standardization (DES), preferably in the AH-64D or OH-58D aircraft.
- Military aviation certification and/or rating as an Instructor Pilot in the UH-60M program series aircraft is required.
- Possession of an FAA rating as Certified Flight Instructor – Instrument – Helicopter (CFII-H) or military equivalent is preferred.
- Flight Experience: A minimum of 1,000 total flight hours is required, including 250 hours utilizing Night Vision Goggles (NVG) and 500 hours logged specifically as an instructor.
- Physical Requirements: Must successfully pass an Army or FAA Class II Flight Physical upon hiring, and annually thereafter.

- Ability to interact and communicate professionally and courteously with the customer at all levels.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Experience
- Experience encompassing diverse mission operations, including Attack, Observation, Utility, and Multi-Mission roles, is highly desired.
