Aviation Instructor Pilot (UH60M)
Overview
The Instructor Pilot delivers advanced UH60M instruction, encompassing initial Aircrew Training Program (ATP) integration, continuation training, the Initial Aircraft Qualification Course (AQC), and Aircraft Qualification Training (AQT). This role involves evaluating the proficiency of employee and customer crewmembers in strict adherence to the US Army Aircrew Training Manual (ATM) and the MNG Modernization Training Plan. Key responsibilities include providing comprehensive academic and hands-on performance training, administering proficiency evaluations, and meticulously maintaining Individual Aircrew Training Folders (IATF) with all necessary training, currency, and readiness records. Furthermore, the Instructor Pilot conducts extensive flight instruction within both the aircraft and advanced flight training devices, covering essential skills such as contact, basic instrument, night vision goggle, and basic combat training, all aligned with US Army standards specified in the government-approved ATM. Instructional delivery may occur through individual or group sessions across academic classrooms, aircraft, and simulators.
Responsibilities
The Instructor Pilot's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Training and evaluating Aviation pilots in the UH60M aircraft, ensuring strict adherence to the US Army Aircrew Training Manual (ATM) and specific unit Aircrew Training Program (ATP) guidelines.
- Assisting in the development and execution of comprehensive Aviation Aircrew Training Programs as directed by customer guidance.
- Verifying the currency and completeness of all essential flight training publications.
- Conducting and evaluating individual readiness level progression tasks, encompassing instrument flight tasks during day, night, Night Vision System (NVS), Night Vision Goggle (NVG) operations, and Instrument Flight Rules (IFR).
- Preparing crewmembers for realistic mission scenarios through advanced flight maneuvers, including specialized training for local environmental conditions such as dust landings and desert weather specifics.
- Delivering aircrew proficiency training in Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC) within and outside controlled airspace, in compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and/or International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) flight rules.
- Attending customer-required meetings to ensure seamless coordination and communication.
- Providing recommendations to customer leadership for Aviation Instructor Pilot and Pilot in Command appointments.
- Participating in weekly scheduling meetings, offering training and mission planning input based on ATP requirements.
- Serving as an Aircrew Training Program (ATP) mentor within the company and battalion standardization teams, supporting Master Gunner training and mentorship as needed by the customer.
- Offering expert guidance and mentorship during field exercises conducted at tenant locations.
- Performing Instructor Pilot duties at offsite locations as dictated by customer operational needs.
- Operating autonomously within broad duty guidelines, exercising significant discretion in methodologies.
- Holding authority to select and implement goals and objectives pertinent to the execution of assigned duties and responsibilities.
- Potentially assuming project lead roles to support program objectives, including technical writing of aviation documentation as guided by the Performance Work Statement (PWS).
- Executing additional duties as directed by management.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required; further education or specialized training in an aviation-related field is considered beneficial.
- Must possess prior qualification as a Pilot in Command.
- Successful completion of the UH60M Instructor Pilot Course (IPC) / Methods of Instruction (MOI) at an authorized U.S. Army Aviation Proponent School is mandatory, or an Instructor Pilot equivalency evaluation administered by a Standardization Instructor Pilot (SP) selected by the Directorate of Evaluations and Standardization (DES).
- Current qualification on the UH60M Series Aircraft is required.
- A minimum of 1500 total flight hours (total time) is essential, including at least 500 flight hours as an Instructor Pilot.
- Possession of a valid FAA Commercial Pilot certificate is required.
- Successful completion of an FAA Class II Flight Physical upon hire and annually thereafter is required.
Desired Qualifications:
- An FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) rating is highly recommended.
