AH-6I Standardization Instructor Pilot

This position is responsible for serving as a Standardization Instructor Pilot within the AH-6I program, encompassing both the aircraft and supporting simulation devices. The incumbent will conduct initial and recurring training and evaluations for both employee and customer pilots, adhering strictly to the U.S. Army Aviation Aircrew Training Manual (ATM) requirements. The role involves delivering academic and hands-on performance training, as well as administering evaluations, to ensure pilot proficiency and standardization of training protocols. This individual is also accountable for maintaining Individual Aircrew Training Folders (IATF) and ensuring all necessary training, currency, and readiness entries are accurately completed. They will lead AH-6I ground school instruction in a classroom setting, providing fundamental instrument training within the aircraft and flight training devices. Furthermore, they will execute flight training duties covering contact, basic instrument, and basic combat skills, all in accordance with government-approved ATM and Program of Instruction (POI). Instruction may be delivered through various methods, including individual or group sessions within academic, aircraft, or simulator environments. Prior experience in mission operations (Attack, Observation, Utility, Multi-Mission, etc.) is highly desirable, and completion of an authorized Aviation Proponent School's Instructor Pilot (IP) course is a mandatory requirement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Train and evaluate aviation pilots in the AH-6I aircraft, in full compliance with the U.S. Army Aviation ATM and specific unit ATP guidelines.
  • Forecast, schedule, monitor, and report on recurring training-related resource needs across all training programs.
  • Develop aviation aircrew training programs in accordance with customer directives.
  • Ensure all flight training publications are current and comprehensive.
  • Conduct and evaluate individual readiness level progression tasks, which include instrument flight tasks during day, night, and night vision goggle (NVG) operations, as well as instrument flight rules (IFR).
  • Prepare aircrew through realistic mission training maneuvers under local environmental conditions, including dust landings and desert-specific weather training.
  • Provide aircrew proficiency training in Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC), both within and outside controlled airspace, adhering to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) or International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) flight rules.
  • Attend meetings with customers as required.
  • Recommend aviation instructor pilot appointments to customer leadership.
  • Act as a member of the Aviation Safety Council, attending scheduled meetings as needed.
  • Contribute training and mission planning input to weekly Production Control and Operations meetings.
  • Provide direct interface and daily status reports concerning training status, mission assignments, mission planning, and crew status.
  • Undertake additional duties or tasks as directed.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training and experience. Must have qualified as a Pilot in Command.
  • Graduation from a course of instruction for OH-58D or AH-64D IPs at an authorized Aviation Proponent School is required.
  • Alternatively, an IP equivalency evaluation administered by a Standardization Instructor Pilot (SP) selected by the Directorate of Evaluations and Standardization (DES), preferably in the AH-64D or OH-58D aircraft, is acceptable.
  • FAA rating (preferred) as Certified Flight Instructor – Instrument – Helicopter (CFII-H) or military equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1,000 total flight hours, including 250 NVG hours and 500 hours as an instructor.
  • Military aviation certification and/or rating as an Instructor Pilot in the UH-60M program series aircraft.
  • Experience in Mission (Attack, Observation, Utility, Multi-Mission) operations preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Army Aviation training concepts, administration, and logistics.
  • Proven ability to conduct independent operational research.
  • Demonstrated past performance and experience leading an organizational staff to achieve organizational goals.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing organizational plans, policies, and operational procedures.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Capacity to effectively supervise staff and team members.
  • Ability to communicate with the customer professionally and courteously.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Must pass the Army or FAA Class II Flight Physical upon hire and annually thereafter.
