AH-64E Instructor Pilot

An experienced Instructor Pilot is sought to deliver comprehensive training on the AH-64E aircraft and supporting simulation systems. This individual will conduct initial ATP integration, continuation training, the Initial Aircraft Qualification Course (AQC), and Aircraft Qualification Training (AQT). The role also involves the evaluation of both employee and customer aircrew members, adhering to the standards of the US Army Aircrew Training Manual (ATM) and the MNG Modernization Training Plan.

Responsibilities encompass the delivery of both academic instruction and hands-on performance training. The Instructor Pilot will administer evaluations to maintain aircrew proficiency and ensure the Individual Aircrew Training Folder (IATF) reflects all necessary training, currency, and readiness entries. The selected candidate will conduct classroom-based instruction for AH-64E systems and gunnery and provide flight instruction within both the aircraft and flight training devices. Flight instruction will include contact, basic instrument, and basic combat skills training in accordance with US Army standards and the government-approved ATM. Instructional methods may include individual or group sessions within academic classrooms, aircraft, or simulators.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Training and evaluating aviation pilots on the AH-64E aircraft, adhering to US Army ATM and unit ATP guidelines.
  • Contributing to the development and execution of the Aviation Aircrew Training Program, as per customer specifications.
  • Ensuring all flight training publications are current and complete.
  • Conducting and evaluating individual readiness level progression tasks, including instrument flight tasks across day, night, night vision system (NVS), night vision goggle (NVG), and instrument flight rules (IFR) conditions.
  • Preparing aircrew through realistic mission training maneuvers, incorporating local environmental factors including dust landings and desert weather training.
  • Providing aircrew proficiency training in Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC) within and outside controlled airspace, adhering to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) or international Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) flight rules.
  • Attending meetings as requested by the customer.
  • Recommending aviation instructor pilot and Pilot in Command appointments to customer leadership.
  • Contributing training and mission planning input to weekly scheduling meetings based on ATP requirements.
  • Serving as an ATP mentor within the company standardization and battalion standardization team, including Master Gunner training and mentorship as needed.
  • Providing guidance and mentorship for field exercises at tenant locations.
  • Performing Instructor Pilot duties at offsite locations, as required by the customer.
  • Operating within established guidelines, with significant autonomy in selecting methods.
  • Exercising authority in choosing and implementing goals and objectives within the assigned responsibilities.
  • Potentially serving as project lead for program support, including technical writing of aviation documents, adhering to the Program Work Statement.
  • Completing additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in a related field is advantageous.
  • Must have been qualified as a Pilot in Command.
  • Graduation from the AH-64 Instructor Pilot Course (IPC) or Methods of Instruction (MOI) course at an authorized U.S. Army Aviation Proponent School, or an IP equivalency evaluation by a standardization instructor pilot (SP) chosen by the Directorate of Evaluations and Standardization (DES).
  • Qualified on the AH-64E Series Aircraft.
  • Master Gunner course qualification preferred, with battalion or brigade level experience recommended.
  • Minimum of 1500 total flight hours, with a minimum of 500 flight hours as an Instructor Pilot and 250 flight hours using NVS/NVG.
  • Possession of an FAA Commercial Pilot certificate.
  • FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) certification is recommended.
  • Successful completion of an FAA Class II Flight Physical upon hire and annually thereafter is required.
  • Mission (Attack, Observation, Utility, Multi-Mission) operations experience is preferred.
