Firefighter/Crew Lead (LOGCAP V - Kuwait)
A highly motivated and experienced Firefighter/Crew Lead is needed to support LOGCAP V in Kuwait. This position reports directly to the Assistant Fire Chief of Operations and is responsible for implementing the LOGCAP V Fire Protection Plan and ensuring emergency response operations adhere to stipulated guidelines and Emergency Management Plans. The incumbent directs and leads firefighters during firefighting operations, rescue operations, hazardous materials incidents, and other related emergency events.
Responsibilities:
- Implements fire protection programs conforming to the Performance Work Statement.
- Maintains a safe workplace and ensures safety is the highest priority.
- Complies with all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) and Quality Assurance (QA) requirements and goals, providing necessary documentation.
- Ensures subordinate employees are trained on EHS and QA requirements.
- Conducts fire inspections and ensures facility safety, documenting and tracking findings.
- Operates computerized digital fire alarm receiving equipment, including two-way radio communications.
- Performs logistical duties supporting fire department operations, including equipment accountability, maintenance scheduling, and administrative tasks.
- Ensures emergency equipment is operational and in a state of readiness according to NFPA or other industry standards.
- Responds to emergencies, disasters, and hazardous material (HAZMAT) spills according to department work instructions, standard operating procedures, or the Emergency Management plan.
- Serves as the team leader for a rescue unit, ladder truck, engine company, water tender, or airport crash apparatus.
- Enters burning or contaminated structures, vehicles, and other immediately dangerous to life and health areas to fight fires and/or perform rescues while wearing required personal protective equipment.
- Directs Crew Chief/Company Officer level operations for structural fires, aircraft fires, rescue operations, medical emergencies, hazardous materials responses, and other emergency events.
- Supervises firefighters, maintaining and cleaning personal protective equipment, and overseeing equipment and facilities cleaning.
- Trains and orients subordinate employees on performance, documentation, and activities affecting department metrics.
- Tracks all data related to metrics and supports the achievement of LCV metrics.
- Attends meetings in the absence of the supervisor or as needed.
- Communicates professionally, both orally and in writing, with subordinates and others to relay job-related information.
- Works to achieve LOGCAP goals and PWS commitments.
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Secret Clearance.
- High School diploma or equivalent (Associate Degree in Fire Science preferred).
- Requires 5 years with an organized Fire or Emergency Service Department. Two years of experience at the level of Company Officer is preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a U. S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and host nation Heavy Driver’s License, is required.
- DoD, Pro-board or International Fire Services Accreditation Congress Certification is required.
- Must meet training and certification requirements outlined in DOD Manual 6055.06, including Fire Officer II, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, Hazmat Operations and Incident Commander, Driver Operator Pumper, Driver Operator Mobile Water Supply MWS, Driver Operator ARFF, Driver Operator Aerial, Airport Firefighter.
- HazMat Technician and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or higher are preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of fire department operations, leadership, and supervisory techniques.
- Thorough understanding of Incident Command System (ICS).
- Possess the ability to demonstrate leadership and management skills in a professional demeanor.
- Ability to work effectively with employees and management personnel at all levels, including multinational staff, superiors, and ranking military officers.
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills, ability to communicate effectively in English (both verbally and written), and some proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook applications.
Working Conditions:
Duties will involve working outdoors with potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions, including frequent dust storms and high temperatures. Potential exposure to chemical or biological agents exists. Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required. Must be able to respond and work in all types of weather and less-than-ideal conditions and may have to enter hazardous environments. Must be able to climb ladders.
Physical Requirements:
Must meet or exceed physical requirements in the current edition of NFPA 1582. Must be able to exert force sufficient to lift and carry up to 200 pounds of body weight. Must be available for recall and manage personnel issues off duty.
This is a first-level supervisor position and will supervise two to six firefighters.
