Qualifications

Minimum 21 years of age at application.

High School Diploma or GED required; two or more years of college preferred.

At least one year of customer service experience in a service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food, education, aviation, social service).

Fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing, understanding), with clear, audible communication for emergencies. Second language proficiency highly desirable (e.g., Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Tagalog).

Ability to hear all types of sounds and communicate effectively in high-stress situations.

Professional appearance, excellent grooming, adherence to uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines. Tattoos restricted on head, hands, fingers, neck; visible arm/wrist/leg/foot tattoos must be credit card-sized or covered, non-offensive. No decorative dental/mouth jewelry.

Proficiency with electronic devices for task completion.

Physical capability: stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects (e.g., luggage, window exits), push/pull beverage carts (up to 250 lbs.). Must pass a functional reach assessment (combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach without shoes) and sit in a jump seat with restraints.

Valid U.S. or foreign passport prior to application, with at least 12 months validity and two blank pages. Must be eligible to travel globally as a working crew member without restrictions to all United destinations.

Legally authorized to work in the United States.

Willingness to work a flexible 24/7 schedule (weekdays, weekends, holidays, scheduled/reserve).

Successful completion of pre-employment DOT drug screens (marijuana prohibited), comprehensive 10-year background checks (including criminal history not prohibiting international travel), fingerprinting, and FAA/United Airlines vision and hearing tests.

Ability to pass a water evacuation drill during training.
