Requirements

Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.

High school graduate or GED required; two or more years of college is preferred.

A minimum of one year of customer service experience in the service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food service, education, aviation, social services).

Ability to speak clearly, concisely, and loudly enough to be heard in emergencies.

Fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding). Proficiency in a second language is highly desirable, with languages such as Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Tagalog being advantageous.

Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.

Capability to communicate effectively during high-stress situations including evacuations, security threats, medical emergencies, severe weather, and turbulence.

Professional appearance and grooming standards, adhering to uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines.

Specific tattoo guidelines apply: not permitted on the head, hands, fingers, or neck. Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet must not exceed credit card size and must not be offensive in nature.

No decorative covers, adornments, or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth.

Proficient in operating electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops).

Must possess a valid passport with at least 12 months of remaining validity at the time of application.

Current physical possession of a valid U.S. passport book or a foreign passport book with applicable visas, with no restrictions on global travel. The passport must have at least 12 months of remaining validity and two consecutive blank pages.

Ability to travel to and from all countries served by United without restrictions.

Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, kneeling, bending, stooping, stretching, reaching, lifting heavy objects (up to overhead bins), and pushing/pulling beverage carts (up to 250 lbs.).

Ability to pass a functional reach assessment for operating equipment and doors.

Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.

Willingness to serve and/or sell food and beverages, including alcohol.

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule, including weekdays, weekends, holidays, and reserve days, in support of 24/7 operations.

Must successfully complete an in-water (pool) evacuation drill during training.

Must be willing to complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.

Must pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens; marijuana (medical or recreational) is prohibited.

Must pass a 10-year background check, ensuring background does not prohibit travel to any United destinations.

Must meet hearing and vision requirements as established by the FAA and United Airlines.
Qualifications
