About the Role
The Flight Attendant position at United Airlines involves ensuring the highest levels of safety and providing exceptional customer service to passengers across the airline's extensive global network. Flight Attendants are expected to be available for global assignments 24/7, including nights, weekends, and holidays, often on short notice, and may be away from their base for extended periods.
Requirements

At least 21 years of age at the time of application.

High school graduate or GED; two or more years of college is preferred.

A minimum of one year of customer service experience within the service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food, education, aviation, social service).

Ability to speak clearly, concisely, and audibly, especially in emergency situations.

Fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding).

Fluent in French (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding).

Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.

Proficiency in operating electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops).

Must possess a valid passport with at least 12 months of remaining validity at the time of application.

Must have current physical possession of a valid U.S. passport book or a foreign passport book with applicable visas, enabling unrestricted global travel.

Ability to travel to and from all countries served by United Airlines without restriction.

Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects, and push/pull a beverage cart up to 250 lbs.

Ability to pass a functional reach assessment with a combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach and hold.

Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with a seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.

Willingness to serve and/or sell food and beverages, including alcohol.

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays, to support United's 24/7 operation.

Must successfully complete an evacuation drill in water (pool) during training.

Must be willing to complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.

Must be able to pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens; medical and recreational marijuana are prohibited.

Must pass a 10-year background check, ensuring background does not prohibit travel to any United destinations.

Must meet hearing and vision requirements as established by the FAA and United Airlines, including specific acuity and hearing loss thresholds.
Qualifications

Professional appearance and excellent grooming standards, with willingness to adhere to uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines.

Tattoos are not permitted on the head, hands, fingers, or neck and cannot be covered by makeup or bandages in these areas. Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet are permitted if not offensive and within size limitations or covered by standard uniform pieces.

Decorative covers, adornments, or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth are not permitted.
